Waste Disposal is the sixteenth chapter of Act 2 in The Devil in Me and the twenty-ninth overall.
The player controls Charlie as he finds a way to escape the basement.
Furnace, 2:23 A.M.[]
Du'Met peers into the furnace before entering and seeing Charlie's burned jacket among the debris. He leaves, and Charlie climbs out from beneath the furnace's grate, coughing and covered in burn marks. He opens a now-unlocked door outside the furnace and enters a large room with a locked door at the end and a side door. Through the side door is a shower room, wherein Charlie can use his tie clip to open a locked box and find a 5 obol coin and look through a slit on a roll up door to see an industrial shredder in the next room. Charlie must pull aside a cart of mannequin parts in the large room to crawl through a gap and enter a room bathed in red light, where he can find the FBI Badge on the floor under an FBI jacket before entering the next room.
The next room is completely dark except for a red light at the end of the room above a switch. Upon pulling the switch, the lights in the room turn on, and Charlie is surprised by a noise behind him. It is an animatronic tied to a chair, jerking around and begging for help while in a bloodstained raincoat identical to the one worn by the groundskeeper in Blood Trail. Charlie can explore the room and examine:
- The animatronic. Charlie realizes that what he saw with Jamie was fake, and can press three different buttons on a table near the animatronic to play three different clips of people begging for mercy while the animatronic jerks around.
- Anatomy Chalkboard.
- Conveyor Warning.
- The button for the conveyor. Pressing it activates the conveyor.
- The conveyor belt. Charlie must climb onto it to progress the chapter.
- In Shared Story, if Charlie does not get on the conveyor belt before the other player finishes Morellos, Du'Met appears and knocks Charlie out with chloroform before dragging Charlie back to the furnace and activating it again, killing him. The rest of the chapter is skipped.
After Charlie climbs onto the conveyor belt, he must complete three QTEs, and then decide whether to hide under the balcony or turn back after he hears Du'Met coming. If Charlie fails any QTE or does not hide, he falls onto the shredder below. Du'Met appears with a cart of luggage and presses a button to turn the shredder on. If Charlie fell onto it, he must complete another QTE to climb out. Du'Met begins dumping the crew's luggage into the shredder, and Charlie must do another QTE, and then a Keep Calm, to avoid losing his grip and falling into the shredder.
- If the Keep Calm is failed, Du'Met notices Charlie and stomps on the floor to make him fall into the shredder, while if the QTE to climb out or avoid losing his grip is failed, Charlie falls in on his own. As Charlie's leg is caught in the shredder, he pleads for Du'Met to stop. Du'Met does stop the shredder for a moment, but then starts it again, causing Charlie to scream as he is crushed.
- If Charlie completes the QTEs and Keep Calm, Du'Met is shown looking at the picture of Mark and Kate that can be found in Scouting. He leaves, and Charlie climbs out of the shredder and notices a ladder in the room leading farther up.
