President Bush declares end of hostilities in Iraq
MANNY SHERMAN EXECUTED
Killer uncooperative during final hours
Convicted serial killer Manny Sherman was executed by lethal injection at 12:30am, Friday, at the South West State Penitentiary. Sherman was sentenced to death in 1999 following a trial in which he was convicted of killing thirteen women dating back to the 1970s. It is believed there may be more victims, but Sherman has refused to co-operate with the police.
Despite his notoriety and a growing campaign calling for his sentence to be reduced to life imprisonment, no further appeal was made by Sherman's lawyer.
Sherman died shortly after the lethal cocktail of drugs was injected into his arms. He refused a final meal and declined to give a statement to the victims' families.
Details of what will happen to Sherman's remains have not been released to the public.
