“ | I thought I might find you here. We've both been through the trenches, huh? | ” |
Vincent Barnes, also known as Vince, is a supporting character in The Dark Pictures Anthology's second installment, Little Hope. He is a mysterious stranger who stayed in Little Hope after it closed in 1979, becoming the only resident of the ghost town. He was voiced and motion captured by Kevin Hanchard. His younger self was modelled on Michael Addo, while his older self was modelled on Winston Thomas.
Appearance[]
In the prologue, Vince is shown as a young man with a black complexion. He has brown eyes, full lips, and black hair styled in a short afro.
At the beginning of the prologue, Vince wears a red and white letterman jacket with a blue shirt underneath. The rest of his clothing is not shown. During the Clarke family funeral, Vince wears a traditional black suit.
In the main game, Vince is shown as an older man with wrinkled skin and semi-gray hair. He also has creases near his nose and slight stubble. Vince wears a beige short-sleeved shirt and weathered blue baseball cap with a red letter D, and dons brown pants and boots.
Personality[]
In his youth, Vince was carefree and romantic towards his girlfriend Tanya. After her death, however, he became depressed and more aggressive, which is evident in his attitude toward his work.
In his old age, Vince has remained a shadow of his younger years, unable to recover from the loss of Tanya. He is shown to be depressed and unspoken, but still friendly, trying to help the protagonists. On the other hand, however, Vince becomes angry if provoked and is resentful, continuing to blame Anthony for the fire, and may even call the police on him.
Biography[]
It is known that Vince worked at the Ravenden Textiles Factory and was James' co-worker. Vince also dated James' oldest daughter, Tanya.
January 17, 1972 should have been an ordinary day for Vince which turned into a nightmare when a fire broke out at the Clarke family home and Tanya died. Vince couldn't come to terms with her death and became depressed, beginning to drink and skip work. He also grew to hate Anthony, Tanya's younger brother, believing that he was responsible for the fire. In the aftermath, after the factory closed, Vince left Little Hope like the rest of the townspeople, though at times he returned to the desolate town, not daring to let go of the past.
On May 27, 2019, Vince was spending another night at the abandoned Little Hope when he encountered the protagonists, while in reality it was Anthony. Throughout the game Vince encounters the group several times and depending on the player's decisions, he may let the protagonists go or call the police on them.

Prologue[]
Vince appears at the beginning of the prologue when he drives Tanya to her home in his car. The two briefly discuss Tanya's family, after which the pair say goodbye, promising to meet the next day. Later, Vince appears at the end of the prologue during the Clarks' funeral, mourning Tanya.
Main Story[]
Act 1[]
When the protagonists walk into Black Cat Bar hoping to find help, they find Vince drinking alone. After introducing themselves, the protagonists, in particular Andrew and John, engage in a dialogue with Vince in an attempt to learn from him how to get out of the town, but nothing comes of it. The group leaves the bar, after which Vince is shown taking all the darts thrown at the board.
Later, Vince catches up with the protagonists on his creaky bike (specifically with Andrew, John and possibly Angela) as they pass over the bridge at the crossroads. However, the group, not seeing Vince in the fog, mistake him for a monster and jump off the road, causing Vince not to notice them as he rides on.
Act 2[]
After Andrew, John and possibly Angela escape the Drowned Demon in the cemetery, they make their way back to the main road. There, the group encounters Vince, but because of the fog, confuse him with the monster again and hide in the bushes. Meanwhile, Vince fixes his bike and may spot the protagonists, but either way, he rides on.
As the protagonists run to hide from the Hanged/Burned Demon into the church, Andrew accidentally bumps into Vince. The latter is perplexed and starts to follow the group when the demon appears behind him. If Andrew has a gun, he can shoot the demon, to which Vince, not noticing the monster, becomes frightened and angry. Either way, he tries to ask Andrew what's going on, to which he can chase Vince away or ask him to go get help, after which Vince will leave.
Act 3[]
When the protagonists are about to enter the factory, they are found by Vince, who either calls out to the group or says that "they" are coming after them (the protagonists think that Vince is talking about demons, but in reality, he means the police).
The End[]
By dawn, Vince catches up with the protagonists on the road or finds Andrew (who turns out to be Anthony) at the burnt-out house. Their dialogue depends on their relationship:
- If the two have a good relationship, Vince will forgive Anthony for the fire and say they've both been through a hard time. Vince then points out where Anthony can find the phone and leaves, telling Anthony not to go back to Little Hope as there is nothing left for him there.
- If the two have a bad relationship, Vince tells Anthony that he shouldn't have come back and that he won't forgive him for the fire. Then the police arrive and arrest Anthony, after which Vince leaves.
Relationships[]
Tanya[]
Tanya is Vince's girlfriend. According to her diary, Tanya found Vince sweet and enjoyed spending time with him. Tanya's death had a serious effect on Vince, causing him to become depressed. As shown in the game, Vince takes care of Tanya's grave, showing that he still loves her even after 48 years.
Anthony[]
Vince and Anthony initially get along well, as shown in the prologue when the two greet each other when Tanya returns home. However, after the fire, Vince hates Anthony, blaming him for Tanya's death. The two meet again 48 years later, but because of amnesia, Anthony doesn't recognize Vince. Depending on how Anthony as Andrew treats Vince, he will either forgive Anthony or continue to hate him.
James[]
James is Vince's co-worker. The two didn't interact in the prologue, but according to Tanya's diary, James disapproved of Vince dating his daughter.
