Traits are characteristics that each protagonist in The Dark Pictures Anthology have. Each protagonists has six traits that change depending on player decisions. Locked Traits, a mechanic exclusive to Little Hope, are traits that cannot be replaced by normal means and remain until broken.

Each trait is a numerical number that counts how many times that trait has increased, with these traits having a different default starting value for each protagonist. In singleplayer or Movie Night, non-controlled characters that would be controlled in Shared Story make most decisions based on their traits.
