“ | Welcome to my Repository. A vast collection of stories that are dark, frightening, horrific. | ” |
The Repository is a mysterious place where the player meets the Curator. It appears in all installments in The Dark Pictures Anthology and also serves as the main menu.
Description[]
The repository is a huge library built of dark wood, in the classical and opulent style of the Victorian era. Most of the repository consists of seemingly endless corridors and crossroads, which causes the Curator to use a compass to find his section. They are made in the same style, having dark blue wallpaper with a white pattern and wood panels, arched doorways, long red carpets, windows and lamps on the ceiling. The walls are hung with eerie paintings in golden frames that are said to serve as portals to other stories[1]. The corridors are mostly empty, though small nightstands, chairs and leather sofas can be found in some hallways.
Curator's room[]
The only room shown in the repository is the Curator's small library, where he does his work. It is accessible through two doors located in the corners of the room; however, the Curator always uses only one door, next to which is the coat rack. The library itself is a spacious two-story room filled with small tables, leather chairs and sofas, along with an old projector with white canvas in the corner. The room has high windows with crimson curtains and one large roof window, as well as multiple floor and gas lamps. Still, most of the time the repository is shrouded in darkness, prompting the Curator to use candelabra and candles.
In the center of the room stands the Curator's massive desk, covered with ornaments, and a huge old globe on a large red patterned carpet. The desk contains everything the Curator needs for the work, including a writing pad, a pen stand, a writing set and a candle, as well as various decorations, such as a stack of books, a skull, a painting of a ship and a small cigar box. Another prominent feature of the room is the marble fireplace, decorated with a carved frame and black columns on the sides. Above the fireplace hangs a large gold-framed painting, the image of which depends on the game.
Next to the windows are two staircases leading to the mezzanine floor, split into two sections by the fireplace. The first section has gold-framed game covers on the wall; the second section leads to a room with a small stand in the center, where all the found collectibles are placed.
One of the bookshelves has books with games stories from the anthology. They are stand out from the rest with a distinctive icon on their spine:
- A ship for Man of Medan.
- A twig effigy for Little Hope.
- An eclipse for House of Ashes.
- A drawing compass for The Devil in Me.
The Dark Pictures Anthology[]
Upon completing the prologue, the Curator arrives at the repository and greets the player. He takes a book with an unfinished story and asks the player to complete it, then, after briefly explaining the basics of gameplay, sends them into the game.
Throughout the game, the player enters the repository several times. The Curator briefly comments on the current outcomes of their playthrough and gives the player a hint in case of their agreement.
At the end of the game, the Curator concludes the story and comments on the ending, depending on the survivors. He bids the player farewell, escorting them out of the repository or leaving himself, before promising that they will meet somewhere else, referring to other games in the anthology.
Trivia[]

- A statue of Saint Justin appears in Little Hope, House of Ashes and The Devil in Me as a 3D model.

- The Curator has his own diorama, which was available on Bandai Namco Store.[2][3] It features him at his desk with four books representing the games from Season Two of the Anthology: a planet (for Directive 8020), a wicker man, a handprint and a cross.
- It is possible that the position of the books represents the order of the games, starting from the bottom.
