This article is about The Dark Pictures Anthology's fourth installment, The Devil in Me .

The End is the unofficial epilogue of The Devil in Me and the fortieth chapter overall.

It is a series of cutscenes with no gameplay. The chapter focuses on the fate of the crew after escaping or dying at the hands of Du'Met. This is the game's conclusion that can have many variations depending on the player's choices.

Meeting The Curator[]

The player meets The Curator for the last time in the repository. Depending on the player's outcome, they see the Curator at his desk.

  • If Lake was the final chapter, a page in The Curator's book is shown with the names "Herman Mudgett," "Henry Howard Holmes," and "Hector Munday" crossed out. Granthem Du'Met's name is written underneath the three. The Curator is visibly frustrated and tears the page out of the book. The room begins rattling and concerned Curator looks around. An unseen force breaks into the repository and bangs on the Curator's doors.

The Curator acknowledges the player's presence, says that all good things must come to an end and asks how good the end was for the crew.

  • If all protagonists are alive, he says "hats off" for keeping everyone alive, and that it must be so rewarding for the player.
  • If one protagonist died, he says that most of them survived, but sadly, there was someone who didn't.
  • If two to four protagonists died, he says that unfortunately, the player lost a few of them.
  • If all protagonists died, he says not to mince words, and that everyone, but everyone, is dead.
    • If Connie survived, he says that the only one who made it off the island alive was the dog.
    • If Connie died, he says the player somehow even managed to get the dog killed, and that he didn't even think that was possible.

If anyone died, The Curator discusses their fate first, beginning with "so rest in peace."

  • If Kate died, he says "it's a final closeup and CUT. It's a wrap".
  • If Mark died, he says that Mark was loyal to the final frame and that there's some studio space going spare in Brooklyn, if anyone is interested.
  • If Charlie died:
    • If Charlie was tied up by Mark, he says that Charlie's poor management skills let him down again, and that his team didn't trust him; they "trussed him up like a turkey" and left him out for Du'Met.
    • If Charlie was decapitated during Lake, he instead says that Charlie lost his head at the end, literally.
    • Otherwise, he says that it looks like series two isn't going to be commissioned after all.
  • If Erin died:
    • If Erin was axed, he says that she was killed by an axe that really shouldn't have been left where a deranged killer might find it.
    • Otherwise, he says that the new girl surprised everyone with her courage, but now she's gone to the great audio suite in the sky.
  • If Jamie died:
    • If Jamie died in Lake, he says that she should've jumped rather than trying to fight, but she had bad advice, and things got very, very messy.
    • Otherwise, he says that the plug's been pulled and the lights are out, and that he doesn't think rewiring the fuse is going to help this time around.

If anyone survived, The Curator discusses them next.

  • If there is only one survivor, the Curator says, "and what about our sole survivor?"
  • If there are multiple survivors, he asks if the experience has changed them.
    • If Kate survived, he says that she had a secret; she was traumatized by something that happened a long time ago, but Kate faced the thing she was most afraid of in the whole world and survived.
      • If Kate and Mark kissed in Wall and have a maximized relationship, he adds that perhaps it helped her see how important Mark's love was to her.
    • If Jamie survived, he says that she learned that she had to trust other people and work with them.
      • If Jamie and Erin kissed in Guests and have a maximized relationship, he adds "and to care for them".
    • If Mark survived, he says that Mark had to stop waiting for people to tell him what to do, and he had to make his own way in the world.
      • If Mark and Kate kissed in Wall and have a maximized relationship, he adds that it helped him to find his way back to Kate.
    • If Erin survived, he says that she showed everyone that although she may be easily spooked, Erin found immense courage when she needed it the most.
      • If Erin and Jamie kissed in Guests and have a maximized relationship, he adds that it took courage to act on the feelings she had for Jamie.
    • If Charlie survived, he says that Charlie finally understood that leadership is more than ordering the team around, and that he had to treat them as equals and let them take the lead when the time was right.

The Curator stands up from his chair and walks towards the exit. He says he'll tackle the paperwork in the morning. He asks the player can they find their own way out and adds with a smile that the meeting was, as always, enlightening. The Curator puts on his bowler hat, says he has no doubts they will meet again, in the future, and bids the player farewell.

Ending[]

If Lake was the finale or if Mark refused the deal, a news report talking about the Lonnit crew members is shown.

  • If at least one protagonist survived, the report mentions that they survived a deadly encounter after getting too close to their subject matter. The report also mentions that they found the body of the state police officer that was sent to investigate the island.
  • If all protagonists are dead, the report discusses the disappearance of the crew. It mentions how the crew were last seen loading into a limo that was tracked by CCTV footage to the shoreline of Lake Michigan. The report also mentions that a state police officer was called to the area due to a sighting of lighthouse flashes, but his whereabouts are still unknown.

Meanwhile, a young woman is seen showing her friends that the large amount of views on her viral video has enabled them a vacation to a nice hotel for a group of five and that "Mr. Du'Met" is going to send them a limo, foreshadowing their capture and likely deaths. The camera zooms in on the woman's laptop, which shows a picture of the hotel with a masked man standing in one of the windows, staring at the camera.

Before the credits roll, the animatronics of the barbershop quartet is shown, singing the a cappella version of the song "Oh Death."

Exclusive scenes[]

Before the friend group invitation scene is shown, the Holmes mask is seen on the grounds of the shoreline. As the camera pans out, a figure picks up the mask.

If Mark and Kate took Du'Met’s deal, they are seen still on the ferry with Kate crying in distress. The ferry suddenly stops, causing the couple to become very nervous. The ferry then goes back towards the island, where Du'Met is seen with a rifle. After he takes aim, the screen goes black, and the couple is heard being shot off-screen.
