The Duke is the first chapter of Act 1 in Man of Medan and the second overall.

The player controls Brad (Theatrical Cut) and Alex (Curator's Cut) as they await the arrival of the others on the dive trip.

Duke of Milan - French Polynesia, 8:30 A.M.

Alex is waiting on the Duke of Milan as Brad carries a box of beer from the dock. After making sure that they have enough beer, Brad admits that he didn't take diving lessons and asks Alex to show him how to do it, to which the latter may agree or scold his brother for not taking lessons.

Brad hands his brother the dive camera, which the latter casually drops, to which Brad says to be careful with the camera as it is very expensive. Alex says that Brad shouldn't worry about small trifles and should try to be cool in front of Julia and Conrad, as he doesn't want to regret taking his brother with him. Brad can say that he was invited or has a hard time socializing with new people, to which Alex can cheer him up or criticize him.

Alex gets a message that Julia and Conrad are about to arrive and apologize to Brad as he became more stressful due to med school and a longer separation from Julia to which Brad can be cynical or empathize. Alex gets another message in which Conrad is afraid that there will be not enough beer. Brad decides to hide the beer and as he goes down to the cabin to do so, Alex asks his advice about big life choices, to which Brad can either reply to go with his gut or tell his brother to consider all the permutation.

• In Curator's Cut, Brad's advice will depend on the relationship with Alex with going with gut will be chosen if high level and considering all the permutation will be chosen if low level.

At this point, Julia and Conrad arrive. The group then introduce each other, before going to do their own activity.

Conrad offers Brad a beer, which he can agree to or refuse, saying he is seasick. If he refuses, Conrad will say that one bottle won't hurt and Brad can still agree or refuse again, insisting that he will get sick. As the guys drink beer, Conrad asks Brad about his diving experience, to which Brad can lie, saying that he has already dived or tell the truth that he has never dived.

• In Curator's Cut, Brad's decision about the beer will depend on his relationship with Alex with choosing to drink will be if high level and refusing will be if low level.

Julia takes Alex aside and asks if he missed her, to which he can say every second or that he didn't miss her. When Julia asks about their dive alone, Alex can agree that there will only be two of them or say that he promised Brad to help.

Everyone gathered on the boat

As the group chats, Conrad asks where their "crust bucket" skipper is. At this moment, this very skipper Fliss arrives in a jeep. She climbs up on the Duke and after making sure everyone is assembled and ready to sail, starts the boat. Conrad tries to flirt with Fliss, but she ignores him as she starts driving the boat, causing Conrad to fall over. The boat sails into the ocean at sunrise.

Trivia

• In Curator's Cut, Alex must maintain a good relationship in this chapter with Julia so that she would later refuse to drink beer and not get the bends.
