Sand Caverns is a location in The Dark Pictures Anthology's third installment, House of Ashes.
Description[]
The Sand Caverns are located under the Zagros Mountains (more specifically, under the shepherds' farm) at a depth ranging from 52 to 158 FT. It is a network of long and narrow caves, in some places illuminated through sinkholes on the surface. There are remnants of the temple, such as pillars and stairs, in some areas.

Act 1[]
During an earthquake, all characters fall into different sinkholes in sand caverns and each characters explore around while realizing that there are vampires moving around them.
Nick and Jason manage to reunite as they fall not far apart. Finding each other, the boys soon encounter a seriously injured Merwin and Clarice, who tries to pull him out. As the group tries to help Merwin, the vampires drag Clarice away, forcing the others to flee. During the chase, Nick and Jason may lose Merwin in several occasions, eventually making it to a giant chasm.
Salim, falling into the caverns, soon finds parts of the temple. Exploring its ruins, he is attacked by a vampire, who is crushed by a truck, apparently completing the pursuit. However, when Salim uncovers the wreckage, the vampire stirs and attacks him. Here, Salim may discover the vampires' weakness and may even kill it as well with a stake. Three marines are seen entering through the caverns, only to be slaughtered by a vampire.
Eric and Rachel find themselves together after falling. They spend a short time in the sand caverns as soon as the couple finds the entrance to the main hall of the temple and goes down there.
Act 2[]
After Jason and Nick reach the temple and possibly reunite with Eric, the group goes back to the sand caverns looking for Joey. They confront Dar and during the shootout, Nick separates from the group. Having bumped into the vampire, he also encounters Salim and together they attempt to kill the monster. After the battle with the vampire, Eric and/or Jason come to them:
- If Salim and Nick killed the vampire, Salim hid and Nick didn't reveal his location, the Americans will return to the temple and may take the vampire's corpse if killed.
- If Salim and Nick couldn't kill the vampire themselves, Salim didn't hide or Nick revealed his location, a brawl will begin between the protagonists, which can end with Salim taken prisoner or Jason's injury and/or Eric's death. However if the vampire was also killed, the Americans will return to the temple while taking the vampire's corpse and Salim as prisoner.
Trivia[]
- Eric, Rachel, and Dar are the only characters who didn't encounter any vampires in the sand caverns.
