Riddles is the eighth chapter of Act 2 in The Devil in Me and the twenty-first overall.

The player controls Jamie as she, Kate, and Mark are challenged with a puzzle. This chapter is exclusive to the Curator's Cut.

Cellar, 11:52 P.M.

• In Curator's Cut, clips of Charlie waking up in the basement in Incinerator are displayed when the chapter begins.

Jamie tries one of the doors in the lobby but finds it locked. Kate notices the doors to the bar and opens them. Jamie and Mark follow her, with Jamie pointing out the door behind the bar, and the three of them open it to find stairs leading into the cellar. They enter and can explore to find Charlie's lighter, with "GOODBYE" etched onto it, before approaching the door at the end of the room where there is a locked door with a number pad nearby. Through a slit in the door Jamie sees a monitor displaying Charlie waking up in the basement, and Mark says that they need to find a way to open the door and help him. Jamie notices the plaque on the door that says "Years are the wine that fill the cup of time" and says that it's a riddle they need to solve. Kate then notices five lights above the door, and the puzzle begins.

As Kate and Mark discuss the puzzle, Jamie can explore and interact with several bottles of wine on the racks around the cellar. The five lights above the door will start to go out, one by one, as she does this.

• In singleplayer/Movie Night the lights are timed, with the player having less time before a light goes out the higher the difficulty setting is.
• In Shared Story, a light goes out for each lever Charlie pulls, with the final light going out when he picks up his cigarettes.

Three of the bottles are unlabeled and four of them have a number and a color. Jamie reads the labeled ones out as she finds them and can eventually realize that the code is 1896, corresponding to the colored strips above the number pad.

Once the code is entered or all five lights go out, the door unlocks and everyone enters the next room, where they gather around a computer screen displaying Charlie looking around a room with a lever. Jamie asks what Charlie is doing.

Trivia

• If Jamie fails to solve the puzzle, Charlie's death in the next chapter is guaranteed.
• The timestamp for this chapter lists the location as "Cellar" despite the characters starting in the lobby.
• In Shared Story, both this and Incinerator are played at the same time.
• This, along with Silver Ash, Party, and Incinerator, are the only chapters in the anthology exclusive to one Cut.
• The code for the door, 1896, is the year Holmes was executed.
