Opportunity is the third chapter of Act 1 in The Devil in Me and the fourth overall.
The first segment is a cutscene and has no gameplay, focusing on the crew's trip into the shoreline of Lake Michigan. During the second segment, the player controls Charlie (Theatrical Cut) and Mark (Curator's Cut) as they set off to find a good photo opportunity.
Streets[]
As the crew bring their luggage to an area under a bridge, the rest of Charlie's phone conversation plays, with him asking what the catch is and the man on the phone saying that the catch is they must do it today. Charlie is reluctant at first, but eventually agrees. A limousine pulls up in front of the group, and the crew puts their luggage in the truck, with Kate rejecting Mark's assistance and being annoyed by Jamie cutting in front of her. Meanwhile, the limo's driver is shown adjusting his gloves. Charlie assures the group that the experience will be grand.
As the limo drives through the woods, Mark asks where exactly they're going, and Kate says the situation reminds her of Topeka, when the group became lost. Jamie and Charlie talk about Du'Met's hotel replica, with Charlie insisting it will save the show. The driver plays a tape recording requesting that the group hands over their phones so that Du'Met's private information cannot be revealed. Charlie convinces the group to do so.
Shoreline, Lake Michigan, 4:56 P.M.[]
The limo goes through a gate and reaches the shoreline, where it is observed by a camera. Everyone gets out to unload their luggage, and Jamie questions why there are no servants if Du'Met is so rich, and is annoyed that the driver has not exited the vehicle to assist them. After collecting their luggage, the limo drivers away, and Erin asks what they are going to do now. Charlie says he wants to get footage of the lake and scope of the island. Mark says there is too much fog, so Charlie says they can climb up to the lighthouse for a better view. Mark agrees to come with him, despite Jamie and Kate's uncertainty.
Charlie and Mark can explore as they move to the lighthouse, jumping and climbing over various obstacles. On the way, Charlie thanks Mark for backing him up, and they can find the Crash Plaque and a sign warning them of cliff erosion before eventually reaching a small tunnel covered by bars and with a locked door. Charlie and Mark crawl through a hole in the bars and move through the tunnel, having a chance to use their light sources, as Mark asks Charlie for a couple weeks off after they finish filming. They continue forward, being scared by a decrepit mannequin behind part of a cliff, before reaching the plateau with the lighthouse. Mark is interested in the light on the mist, and they can explore the area to find that the gate to the lighthouse is chained, with a newspaper nearby. They can explore a side area and enter the foghorn building, wherein there is the Foghorn Memo and Foghorn Corkboard, before eventually reaching the lighthouse and doing a QTE to break through another locked gate.
Charlie notices a locked box on the ground and can use his tie clip to open it and find an obol. Charlie or Mark must then move the dumpster outside to enter the lighthouse, possibly after finding the front door locked. As they move through the lighthouse, they hear something inside, and must hide. Regardless of if they are successful, it is revealed to be a wild bobcat, which escapes through the window. Charlie and Mark can then explore the lighthouse to find a picture before going upstairs, where they see several dead animals tacked to the wall. Charlie insists it is just someone with a taxidermy hobby, and they can view a dead crow with mechanical parts fitted inside it before interacting with the ladder to the top of the lighthouse to progress the scene.
Mark looks out at the water and says it looks perfect. Charlie tells him to pan across the lake until the island comes into shot, and then zoom into the lighthouse. As Mark does this, Charlie notices the ferry coming to shore and says they better get back.
