This article is about The Dark Pictures Anthology's fourth installment, The Devil in Me .

Maze is the third chapter of Act 3 in The Devil in Me and the thirty-third overall.

The player controls Erin and Kate/Jamie as they flee from Du'Met and become trapped in the hotel's gardens.

Gardens, 3:29 A.M.[]

The surviving women flee Du'Met and enter the gardens, where the controlled character must do a Keep Calm. If it is failed, they snap a branch and another Keep Calm begins.

  • If both Keep Calms are failed, Du'Met finds the controlled character and grabs them but they slip away, with Erin losing her microphone if she still has it. The controlled character flees, falling through a hole in the floor and down into the maze. The controlled character watches as Du'Met looks for them before walking away.
  • If either Keep Calm is succeeded, the controlled character evades Du'Met and enter the maze.

If there are other women alive, the controlled character meets with them and says they got lucky and escaped Du'Met. The player can now go through the maze, exploring to find:

As they walk, the group talks to each other. If Erin is alive, she explains that she has noticed Du'Met never speaks, and says it is like how she was selectively mute as a child. Erin says that psychologists told her being selectively mute meant she was afraid of giving away her identity, which is the same as Du'Met.

  • If Jamie is alive, she says he obviously wants to disguise himself.
  • If Jamie is dead, Kate says it is the same reason Du'Met wears a mask.

Erin says it's more than that and that Du'Met has a conflict in his identity and is being caught between being two people.

  • If Kate is alive, she says that he is trying to separate his killer persona from his regular life, and Erin admits that may be the case.
  • If Jamie is alive, Jamie says that it's a good thing Erin didn't become a killer, and Erin jokingly tells her to give her time.

If Erin is dead, but Kate and Jamie are alive, Jamie asks about the book Kate lent her and says that she could use that now. Kate says that wasn't about mazes, and Jamie says she got that. Kate then apologizes for coming across as if she thought Jamie had a problem, and explains that when she is having a bad time she assumes everyone else is too. Jamie says she knows and the book was good, saying she read all of it. Kate is surprised by this and Jamie jokes about its content. Kate says she gave a copy to Charlie but she doubts he has opened it yet.

Eventually, they reach the center of the maze, where a statue of a dancing man and woman can be seen under a gazebo contraption. There is a dead end leading to a box where a switch must be placed, and some stairs going up, which lead to a platform that contain a 10 obol coin, the lever switch, and three buttons that need to be powered. After putting the lever switch in place and activating it, the player can return to the buttons, and pressing them all activates the contraption, causing it to spin around and reveal a ladder down into an underground bar.

In the underground bar, the player can find a 5 obol coin and a secret before climbing another ladder out of the maze, with the non-controlled characters following behind them. Outside the maze, the player can enter a shed to find a bloody sundial and Kurt Hall's lanyard before entering a short greenhouse full of statues that resemble Du'Met. One of the statues on the right actually is him, and when the player turns the camera to face him or walks past all the statues, Du'Met reveals himself and begins chasing the survivors.

If Erin was being controlled, the player switches to Kate/Jamie as they approach the outdoor stable, spotting an axe on a tree stump nearby. They try and fail to pull it out before running into the stable, with Du'Met pulling it out instead. With all the survivors in the stable, the player can choose to barricade the door or run. If they choose to barricade, Du'Met begins breaking through the door and they can then choose to climb up to the loft or run.

  • If they barricade and climb:
    • If only Kate or Jamie is alive, they climb up and go through the window at the end of the loft, leaping out of the stable.
    • If Erin is dead, but Kate and Jamie are alive, Jamie fails to climb up with Kate and is chased by Du'Met to the end of the stable, where she fails to get the door open. Du'Met kills her with the axe as Kate watches in horror. Kate then goes through the window at the end of the loft, leaping out of the stable.
    • If Erin is alive, she fails to climb up with the others and is chased by Du'Met to the end of the stable, where she fails to get the door open. Du'Met kills her with the axe as the others watch in horror. The survivors then go through the window at the end of the loft, leaping out of the stable.
  • If they do not barricade or do not climb, the survivors run to the door at the end of the stable and slowly force it open, with Du'Met slamming into it with his axe as they reach the other side.

The survivors finds themselves at a dead end on a balcony overlooking one of the island's cliffs, and turn back to find Du'Met approaching with the axe. As they plead with him, he steps closer and the platform begins to creak. Suddenly, it breaks, sending the survivors falling down as Du'Met watches them.
