Marie

Sub-Pages

You have a lovely hotel, Mr. Holmes.

Marie Whitman is one of the two false protagonists and a playable character in The Dark Pictures Anthology's fourth installment, The Devil in Me. She was one of many visitors of H.H. Holmes' "Murder Castle," honeymooning with her husband while unaware of the horrors that lurk within. She was voiced and motion captured by Kitty Archer and was modelled on Zara Sparkes.

Appearance[]

Marie is a young woman with auburn hair in a perm. She's dressed in all white. It appears to be a white blouse with a light colored skirt. In the first scenes upon entering the hotel, she wears a hat.

As the game progresses, Marie takes off her hat when she enters the honeymoon suite. She later takes off her clothes to prepare for a bath.

Personality[]

Marie appears to be a thrill seeker, playful, and brave woman who loves her husband dearly. She appears to be optimistic as she is not bothered about the slow service, thinking they're "getting everything perfect." She is curious and isn't afraid to trespass as shown when she enters a private room without Holmes' permission. She has a playful nature when she starts a pillow fight with her husband.

Biography[]

Not much is known about her life prior to the events of the game. Her and Jeff have just married and they were about to visit the fair while on their honeymoon.

Prologue[]

Jeff and Marie are welcomed into Holmes's hotel, and are upgraded to the honeymoon suite by him. Marie then either purchases a bottle of rose water or a tin of face powder at the hotel's shop, and makes some small talk with Jeff. They both then go to their suite, stopping along to the way to explore an unfinished room. After a pillow fight, Marie then heads off for a bath, and she tells Jeff to get a shaving kit in the hotel lobby. Marie will then use whatever she bought at the hotel's shop. While relaxing, she hears someone in the bathroom, and can either continue to relax or investigate.

  • If she relaxes, she will close her eyes and Holmes will give her a massage before drowning her in the bathtub.
  • If she investigates, she will find Holmes in the room and scream out for Jeff, before Holmes slashes her a few times before slitting her throat.
    • If Jeff had ran away or failed the QTE to fight Holmes, Marie may complete a QTE to crawl to a window where Jeff is trapped with poisonous gas to look at him one last time before they both die.

Act 1[]

If Jeff bought a necklace for Marie, it will be on display in Scouting.
