We each have our own demons. They are ours and ours alone...
This article is about The Dark Pictures Anthology's second installment, Little Hope .

Joseph Lambert is a supporting character and subsequently an antagonist in The Dark Pictures Anthology's second installment, Little Hope. He is a Puritan from 1692 and Amy's husband. He was voiced and motion captured by Martin Walsh and his human-form was modelled on Sukesh Khosla. His motion capture performance was assisted by Ian Staples.

Appearance[]

Joseph's face resembled John's - oval face, tan and slightly wrinkled skin, brown eyes and hair. The only differences was that Joseph didn't wear glasses and his hair was longer, tied back in a ponytail.

He wore the traditional clothing for Puritan men - Black shirt and pants, light brown vest over the top, and a white scarf.

Personality[]

Of all the doubles, Joseph is a well-revealed character due to the fact that he has the most flashback appearances. Joseph was shown to be a calm and reasonable person, as he thought that Mary couldn't blame Amy, even though she was a problem child, and also tried to convince the residents that his wife was innocent.

After Amy's execution, Joseph wanted to restore justice by exposing Mary as the real evil in Little Hope. To do this, he followed her in order to catch her in witchcraft, and also decided to help Abraham with testimony against her.

During the execution, Joseph showed no fear. On the contrary, he was determined to try to warn the townspeople about Mary, as does his wife.

Biography[]

Joseph was born in the late 1640s and was later married to fellow Puritan Amy. In 1692, Joseph was involved in the witch trials after he was accused of witchcraft like his late wife. Subsequently, Joseph was sentenced to death and executed by being crushed with stones.

Three centuries later, in 2019, Joseph returned as the Crushed Demon and began to haunt a group of college people, specifically his double John, in an attempt to kill his reincarnation.

Main Story[]

Act 1[]

Joseph as a human appears in flashbacks. When Reverend Carver and Marshal Isaac arrive at Lamberts' house to arrest Amy, who is accused of witchcraft, Joseph closes the doors at his wife's request and begins to question the charge. They spot Daniel and Joseph asks him if he is the one who blamed Amy. Upon learning that Mary is the accuser, Joseph doubts this, saying that although she is a problem child, she couldn't do this. As Carver demands to open the door more strongly, Joseph decides to talk to him and lets him into the house. He tries to convince them that Amy hasn't done anything wrong, but Isaac still arrests his wife.

At the trial, Joseph again tries to acquit Amy, but Carver shuts him down, telling the court not to pay attention to the words of the man, than the house stinks with the stench of brimstone. During Amy's execution, Joseph tries to intervene, but is stopped by Carver. After Amy drowned, Joseph kneels at the edge of the bridge.

Act 2[]

After the death of his wife, Joseph pulled her body from the bottom of the river and buried her with dignity. At the same time, Joseph was forced to give up his lands to Carver and he settled in another house (known as the Historical Ruins or Derelict Building in 2020), and after that he began to keep an eye on Mary. During one of these moments, he bumps into Daniel and Taylor and explains the situation to them. Seeing Mary with a poppet in hand, Joseph reported this to Judge Wyman, but in the end, Tabitha was accused instead of Mary.

Act 3[]

After Tabitha's and David's executions, Abraham - Mary's new keeper - came to Joseph for advice about the girl. He convinced Abraham that he needed to tell the court the evidence against Mary and he would support him. However, their idea failed - Abraham ceased to be Mary's keeper and Joseph was sentenced to death for serving Satan along with Amy.

During the execution, Joseph says that he is innocent and that Mary, the true servant of the devil, poisoned Little Hope. Despite the attempts of the protagonists to stop the execution (to raise stones from him or take the poppet from Mary), the rest will perceive it as witchcraft. Carver orders Isaac to put more stones and Joseph, unable to bear the weight, is crushed.

He wanted to help Abraham with accusations against Mary, but he himself was accused of witchcraft and serving the devil along with his wife. During the execution, Joseph, like Amy, tried to warn that Mary was Satan's servant, but he was not listened to. Isaac began to lay more stones that crushed Joseph.

Relationships[]

Amy[]

Amy was Joseph's wife. He loved her and tried to help, convincing people that his wife was innocent, and also tried to interrupt the execution. After Amy's execution, Joseph pulled her body out of the river and buried her with dignity. From that moment, Joseph believed in Amy's words that Mary was evil, and tried to stop her.

Mary[]

Initially, Joseph didn't take Mary seriously, believing that although she was a problem child, she could not blame Amy. When this turned out to be true, Joseph tried to expose Mary as the root of evil in Little Hope and supported Abraham's idea. Before his death, Joseph, like his wife, tried to prove to people that Mary is the devil's servant.

Abraham[]

Joseph has a good relationship with Abraham. When he came to him with a proposal to tell the court about Mary's lies, Joseph agreed with the idea and also decided to support Abraham.
