Hiding is a game mechanic exclusive to The Dark Pictures Anthology's fourth installment, The Devil in Me.
Overview[]
Hiding is necessary when the protagonist must find somewhere to stay out of sight and avoid a threat. The segments appear with a timer correlating to how much time the character has to hide. Hiding spots are marked with large white arrows, and some segments require the character to continue holding the button to hide until the threat leaves.
If the player fails to get into a hiding spot or lets go of the button before the threat is gone, their character fails the segment and is spotted. In Shared Story, both players must hide if the characters they are controlling are with each other. If one of the players fail to do hide, the failure counts for both players.
The time the player has to hide is determined by the difficulty setting.
