Heavy Burden is the fourth chapter of Act 3 in Little Hope and the nineteenth overall.

The player controls Angela/Andrew (Theatrical Cut) and Daniel and John (Curator's Cut) as they arrive at a ruined and familiar house.

Factory Grounds, 4:47 A.M.

• Theatrical Cut
• Curator's Cut

Those who did not fall into the pit in the factory leave to search for the others.

• If John did not fall into the pit, he will close the gate behind them.
• If Angela is dead and Andrew fell into the pit, the Curator's Cut segment plays instead.

If anyone fell into the pit and survived, the group calls out for them as they walk along the trail to an underpass.

If Daniel did not die in the previous chapter, anyone who fell into the pit and survived is shown coming out of the tunnel, before locking the grate door behind them.

• If Daniel failed to break his locked traits in the previous chapter, the Impaled Demon will still be chasing him, and Daniel taunts it.
• If Daniel died in the previous chapter, the Theatrical Cut segment plays instead.

They move through a ravine searching for the others while the girl watches them from the bridge. On the way, they may find a letter.

If anyone fell into the pit and survived, they reunite with the group outside of the underpass.

• The returnees can be John by himself, Andrew by himself, Daniel by himself, or Andrew and Daniel.
  • If John fell down in Ruined, he returns.
  • If Andrew fell down in Ruined, he returns.
  • If Daniel fell down in Ruined and survived, he returns.

It is shown that someone is following them. Continuing along the trail, the group finds an old car, which inside the trunk, a clipping of a newspaper can be found that reads out "BURN IN HELL!".

As the group moves on, they see a ruined house in the distance with the girl passing by. Before they can do something, Mary scares them and brings them to the past. The group then sees Joseph holding a wooden plate with stones on it. Carver says he must die to keep Little Hope safe and that not even his wife Amy was spared his lust to serve Satan. Joseph tells him not to dare to damn his late wife and Carver, indicating his tenacity, orders Isaac to put more stones, which will quickly drive the devil from him. Joseph says that he is sinless and that Mary brought madness to the town. The group can decide to rescue Joseph or confront Mary.

• If the group decides to rescue Joseph, they will run up to him and start picking up stones. Carver will see the stones levitating in the air.
• If the group decides to confront Mary, John will approach her and try to take the doll away from her. Carver sees Mary struggling against an invisible force.
• If the group doesn't do anything, Carver will call Mary tormented.

Carver orders to put more stones and Joseph, unable to bear them, dies.

Ruined House, Back Yard, 4:55 A.M.

• If Taylor is alive, she will run up to the group and ask what happened.
• If Taylor is dead, Andrew will say that they cannot get out of this nightmare.

John will say that they have no time, but they are interrupted by the Crushed Demon. John takes a sledgehammer and decides to fight.

• If everyone is alive, John will say that he is tired of running away.
• If someone was killed, John will say that he will avenge them.

While the others start to run away, the Drowned Demon appears and begins to crawl towards Angela.

• For John:
  • If John completes QTEs, he will successfully fight off the demon.
  • If John fails QTEs, he will drop the sledgehammer and the demon will knock him down. Andrew/Angela will throw the sledgehammer back to John.
    • If John catches the sledgehammer, he must complete QTE to hit the demon.
    • If John fails to catch the sledgehammer, he must complete QTE to dodge the attack.
• For Angela:
  • If Angela tells John that she is not going to wait for him or says nothing, she will receive the locked trait Resentful.
  • If Angela tells John to hurry up, she will break her locked traits.

Angela will start running away and must complete QTEs to dodge the chains.

• If John successfully fought back, Angela must complete QTE to hit the demon with a stick.
• If John loses the sledgehammer, Angela must complete QTE to throw it back to John.

• For both:
  • If Angela was caught, John can save her or leave her.
    • If John decides to leave Angela, he will run to the house while Angela will be killed.
    • If John decides to save Angela, he will break the chains with a sledgehammer.
      • If John has lost his sledgehammer, he will untie the chains. Angela will start running, but the demon grab her leg and she must kick it to free herself.

The door to the house turns out to be stuck, prompting Andrew to kick it open. As the group enters, the demon grabs John's leg and drags him.

• If John fails QTEs and Angela, Daniel, or Taylor is alive, the demon will crush him and drag his body into the fog while the rest of the survivors are locked in the house.
• If John completes QTEs, Andrew will kick the demon, hit it with the sledgehammer, or John will stab him with a piece of railing.

Locked in the house, John will hold the door while the Crushed Demon tries to break through. John can ask Andrew to stay with him or tell the others to leave.

• If John asks Andrew to stay with him or says nothing, he will have to perform a QTE to hold the door as long as Angela, Daniel, or Taylor is alive. John will receive the locked trait Fearful.
  • If John fails the QTE, the demon will break through and kill John.
• If John tells the others to leave, the others will dissuade him. John will break his locked traits.

The knocking stops and John looks through the door, making sure the demon is gone.

• If John leaves Angela or saves her and fails QTEs, she will be drowned in black ooze.
• If Angela fails QTEs to escape, she will be drowned in black ooze.

Trivia

• This is the fourth chapter for Angela and the first for John in which they can die.
• Taylor neither can be controlled in this chapter nor can witness Joseph's execution.
