Ghost Story is the fifth chapter of Act 1 in Man of Medan and the sixth overall.
The player controls Julia (Theatrical Cut) and Brad (Curator's Cut) as the group discusses the document found by Alex and Julia in the wreck.
Duke of Milan, 10:07 P.M.[]
Alex, Brad, and Julia stand on the deck and discuss what happened.
- If Alex didn't make the proposal, he and Julia will talk about the wreck.
- If Julia has accepted the proposal, she and Alex will talk about the circumstances.
- If Julia rejected Alex, he will stand aside and not take part in the conversation as Julia talks about the wreck.
Alex asks where Conrad is, who was supposed to take the beer, to which Julia replies that he probably drank everything and Brad decides to go check him out.
- If Julia found anti-aircraft shell, she will tell Brad about it.
Julia checks up on him, noticing something off with his mood, to which he talks about their dive and the experience. Alex will mention he's glad something on this trip will be memorable, and Julia can be sentimental and tell him every trip they have is memorable. The two will then embrace if she tells him she loves him.
The two embrace happily and Alex asks how she feels about being 'Mrs. Julia Smith', to which she can be excited about or mention keeping her own name which she's been building professionally, surprising him. Alex mentions he was worried she might say no. She can reassure him she would obviously say yes, or mention she wasn't sure what to say. The two kiss.
Alex asks her why she rejected, Julia can apologize or stand by her decision. Julia can apologize and reaffirm her love for him, but point out that it wasn't the right time to propose. Otherwise, Julia defends her decisions and opens up about not being completely honest about her feelings and how she imagines the future of their relationship. Alex asks her if it's over, to which she can ask for time apart or be more reassuring and saying they'll talk later.
Brad will go look for Conrad and Fliss and can inspect the anti-aircraft shell if it was found, the photos on the waterproof camera (among which will be the co-pilot badge if found), Fliss's license if it was not hidden in Uninvited Guests, and a picture.
- If Brad is gone for a long time or Julia has completed the dialogue faster than Brad could find the others (always happens in Theatrical Cut), she will join him in looking for Conrad and Fliss.
Brad (alone or with Julia) find Conrad and Fliss either when the former tries to flirt again with the latter or kissing (depending on the level of the relationship). Julia or Brad can interrupt them or remain silent until the two notice them. Conrad takes a beer and the group gathers on the deck. Alex tells they need to look in navigator's pad to find out why the plane was out there and asks Julia to bring it. At this time, Brad can talk to Alex about the proposal.
Julia goes back down to the cabin and also can inspect the anti-aircraft shell if it was found, the photos on the waterproof camera, and Fliss's license if it was not hidden.
- If Alex warned her about the fake license during Wreck, she will sarcastically agree that it isn't convincing.
Julia finds the pad in her case and returns to the others.
- If she is takes too long, then Alex will come and take the pad himself.
- If he didn't propose to Julia, she can also find the ring and will be surprised, hiding it if Alex approaches before she is finished inspecting.
- If Alex and Julia have a neutral or positive relationship, both of them will kiss briefly on the way.
- If Alex and Julia have a negative relationship, he will ask to talk to her and she will refuse.
As Julia left for the pad, Brad talks to his brother about a wreck or a sentence in which Alex can thank him for advising him to follow his gut or, conversely, blame him because of that advice.
Alex decides to go after Julia while the others wait for him. Conrad asks Brad if he has a girlfriend. Brad can say that this is not his strong suit or say that he has, but broke up with her, after which he himself can ask Conrad or Fliss about their romantic experiences.
After Julia and Alex return, Conrad starts serving beer to everyone but Brad.
- If Julia resurfaced too early, Alex will tell her not to drink beer due to possible bends and decompression sickness, while Conrad will insist on drinking the beer, saying it will ease the pain. Julia can either agree or refuse the offer.
- In Curator's Cut, if Julia and Alex have the highest possible relationship, then Julia will listen to Alex and refuse to drink the beer. Otherwise, Julia won't listen to Alex and will drink the beer.
Alex shows the guys the Manchurian Gold document and asks Fliss if they can sail along the coordinates tomorrow. Julia will start to talk about the other finds, which angers Fliss. She begins to reproach the guys for acting recklessly, to which Julia can apologize or ask who will know. In any case, Fliss says that with these actions they defiled the graves of the dead and that they could bring ghosts.
Brad's scare
After mentioning ghosts, Alex suggests that Brad tell a scary story and the others support the idea. Brad begins to tell a story about a lighthouse keeper, how he found a woman who claimed she and her parents lived in that lighthouse and how they found her parents brutally murdered. As he makes up the story, the guys will comment on various points, which Brad will be able to change (how he found out about the story; the woman lived with her brother or husband; how her parents were murdered).
Reaching the climax, where a lighthouse keeper, finding the woman's brother/husband's corpse in the closet, sees his own face, Brad makes a scary face in a moment of thunder, scaring everyone. The group begins to praise or criticize Brad's story (Alex and Conrad will praise or criticize Brad depending on their relationship with him and Julia's choice will depend on the player's decision in Theatrical Cut or her traits in Curator's Cut).
Fliss says that they should go to bed and that bad weather is approaching, despite Conrad's requests for another bottle of beer.
