Both of us are getting out of here, you'll see.

Daniel is one of the five main protagonists and a playable character in The Dark Pictures Anthology's second installment, Little Hope. He is a college student in John's creative writing class and is secretly dating Taylor though in actuality, he is a creation of Anthony's imagination. He was voiced and motion captured by Kyle Bailey and was modelled on Jonathan Burteaux. His motion capture performance was assisted by Michael Jinks.

Appearance[]

Daniel is a young man with fair skin and an athletic body. He has brown eyes and short brown hair done in a style similar to a flattop. It can be noticed that he has a small faded mustache will a barely noticeable soul patch below his lower lip.

Daniel wears a red two-button polo shirt with a large open collar hiding his neck, beige pants tied with a brown leather belt and a pair of dark brown Sperry shoes with light laces. He wears only one accessory, which is a branded silver watch on his left wrist.

After the bus crash, Daniel gets several visible bruises on his body. Starting from the first confrontation with the Impaled Demon, he will receive pierce wounds and bloodstains. Also, the more locked traits Daniel has, the more sickly he will look, with pale skin and dark veins. In Curator's Cut of Heavy Burden, if Daniel failed to break his locked traits, he will fall into a mud puddle when the Impaled Demon tries to attack him through a gate.

 Personality[]

Daniel's profile at the start of the game.

Daniel is outgoing and very friendly, going along with everyone in the class. He is calm by nature, but if the lives of his loved ones, especially Taylor, are in danger, he quickly becomes distressed and aggressive.

Most of Daniel's traits are revealed in his relationship with Taylor, who accompanies him throughout most of the game. He is very supportive to his loved ones and ready to defend their dignity. He also often acts as a knight in shining armor, sticking up for the defenseless and risking his life to protect his class. On the other hand, Daniel can show a cowardly side, running away from threats and even putting others in danger.

Despite him seeming like an average student, Daniel displays aggressive survival abilities, which is also supported by his physically developed body. He is quite resourceful in a fight, using whatever tool he can find to his advantage. Thus, in confrontations with the Impaled Demon, Daniel can use a large tree branch, the demon's own spear and a pipe.

While being heroes in words, the events of the night show what Daniel is like in action. He either tries to flee from danger or confronts them face to face.

Biography[]

Daniel's natural talent for football earned him a scholarship, so he could be looking at a bright future. At one point, Daniel reveals that he and Angela have actually known each other for a long time. He also started dating Taylor, but they keep their relationship a secret from the rest.

On May 28, 2019, Daniel was aboard a bus with his fellow college students and professor, as they were going on a class field trip. That was, until a detour towards Little Hope and a bus crash changed their trip into something paranormal. They were trapped in the ghost town and must figure out the roots of the evil before all their souls get dragged to Hell. His fate would then be decided by the player, in which he would leave the town intact or forever be trapped with the other lost souls.

Main Story[]

Act 1[]

When the bus crashes, Daniel and Angela are both flung from the back of the bus and ended up landing in a clearing that's a small drop from the side of the road. After discussing the situation with John and Taylor, the guys follow the trail. While on the way, Angela talks crap about Taylor in front of Daniel. After reunited, the group will talk about their plan. Eventually, Daniel gets into an argument with Angela about Taylor. While the group panics, Andrew, in far more rage than before, screams at them to stop their arguing. The group then continues down on the road. Reaching a bar outside, Daniel converses with Taylor briefly about their relationship before reuniting with the group to enter.

At the bar, Daniel watches Taylor and John play darts subsequently. Like everyone else, he hears the bells and goes to town. When Andrew and Angela reunite with the group after a flashback, Daniel does not believe their story. Later, Daniel and the others arrive at an intersection. Having witnessed the girl and heard John's story, Taylor decides to follow the trail to the school. Daniel agrees and goes with her anyway.

Daniel, along with Taylor and Angela (if she joins the two) make it to the school but find it closed. Deciding to go through the playground, they confront the girl and meet with Mary and Carver. Back in the present, the group stumbles upon a grocery store. Daniel will climb through the window and will be grabbed by Amy. He will see her being arrested and can have time to talk to her husband. Once met, Daniel will tell them about Amy and Joseph and will go to the police station. Trying to open the door, the two groups collide and decide to go to the collapsed bridge. On the way, Daniel will be shocked by a poster depicting Dennis. Having reached the bridge, Daniel and Taylor will lag behind the group and only watch the Drowned Demon attack their friends.

Act 2[]

Daniel and Taylor finds a detour in the form of a trail near to the bridge. On the way, the duo finds Amy's grave and run into Joseph spying on Mary. Daniel and Taylor, walking along the trail, come across a museum. While investigating, Daniel loses Taylor and hears her inside a room with different voices. Freeing Taylor, she talks about Tabitha's accusation. Reunited, Daniel may find a knife and keep it for himself or give it to Taylor, after which they leave the museum. The duo reaches the place of execution and finds a tire. Taylor panics as she recognizes it as her tire with golden stars, whom Daniel will start to calm her down. Moving on, they see Tabitha being executed, and then leave the place. Walking along the road, they realize that a demon is chasing them and they start to run away. Having bumped into Andrew and John, Daniel and the others enter the church.

While Andrew and John are talking to Vince, Daniel and Taylor are grabbed by David and see his accusations. Then, when Daniel and Andrew climb the bell tower, they get into the second flashback, where David is ready to be executed. Daniel tries to save him, but David will still fall and die. When Taylor climbs the bell tower and sees her demon, she panics and offers to leave, but Andrew stops her, believing that the church will protect them. Regardless, the group is ambushed by the demons. Daniel confronts the Impaled Demon and may be killed by it or survive. Daniel along with the others escape to the woods.

Act 3[]

Daniel, along with the others, will take a break in the woods. If Angela is alive, Daniel will be glad to see her or mourn her death depend on her status. As they continue along the path, they are attacked again by the demons. Daniel and Taylor run faster than the others and soon arrive at a clearing, where they are attacked by their demons. Daniel can either die here or escape and reunite with the others.

Eventually, Daniel and the others arrive at a building with fireflies. When Andrew reaches out to the fireflies, Abraham will grab them and they will hear his dialogue with Joseph about Mary. When Abraham notices them, Daniel can say that Mary may be the victim or she is to blame, and then return to the present. Noticing the drooping Taylor, he will talk to her about the future and hope for good. Suddenly, the Hanged/Burned Demon grabs her and pulls her into the fog. Daniel follows Taylor and may reach her, after which he can save her or leave her behind to the latter's request.

Later they stumble upon a factory and Daniel, along with Andrew, are grabbed by Abraham again. He asks for advice on what to say to him, to which Daniel can respond so that he pity Mary or blames her. In the present, exploring the factory, he and Andrew push boxes, causing the floor to collapse and Daniel falling into the pit. There he is attacked by the Impaled Demon once more and Andrew will ask him to grab the pipe. Daniel may be heroic or fearful, in which he may die to the demon or escape the tunnel, alone or with Andrew. Daniel eventually reunites with the others. Outside the burned house, Daniel and the others witness Joseph's execution. Once they're attacked again by the demons, Daniel gets inside the house.

Daniel may follow Andrew upstairs and find themselves in another court trial where Mary is accused. Daniel can help Andrew to blame Mary, the poppet, or expose Carver. Either way, Daniel along with the others decide to leave the house. If Daniel fails to break his locked traits or Mary was executed, he will be killed by his demon.

The End[]

If Daniel survives, he will leave Little Hope alongside Andrew and the others.

  • If Andrew has a bad relationship with Vince, Daniel will witness Andrew being arrested by the officer.
  • If Andrew has a good relationship with Vince, the group reaches the diner. Regardless of Daniel's fate, after Andrew apologizes, he will comfort him.

When it is revealed that Andrew is Anthony/the bus driver, Daniel will disappear as he is a hallucination.

Taylor[]

Main article: Daniel and Taylor

Taylor's classmate Daniel and his girlfriend, but they hide their relationship. Daniel loves Taylor and always tries to protect her. For example, when they are attacked by their demons, Daniel worries about Taylor's safety rather than his own. Despite this, Daniel may be offended by Taylor if she says that she is not dating him, considering herself a "pet". They stick together for most of the game, so their relationship can change dramatically. The couple can either support and help or leave and taunt each other. If everyone survived, Taylor and Daniel will stay together or decide they need time apart depending on their relationship status.

Angela[]

Angela is Daniel's classmate. They are old friends. According to Daniel, he knows Angela longer than anyone else and despite her rudeness, she has a soft side. Although they have been friends for a long time, Daniel does not like Angela prying into his and Taylor's relationship, and also gets angry with her when she is rude. Despite this, Daniel worries about Angela and he will either briefly mourn her death (if Andrew accidentally shoots her in Low Point) or he will be glad to see her alive in the woods, saying that 'no one messes with her'.

John[]

John is Daniel's teacher. Daniel treats him neutrally: he does not criticize him, but at the same time does not always agree with his ideas, always choosing Taylor. With this neutrality, Daniel believes in John and knows that he will never leave them behind.

Andrew[]

Andrew is Daniel's classmate. They rarely communicate throughout the game, but in Act 3 they start to work together more often. Most of their interactions involve deciding what to do with Mary, where they can be on the same side (blame Mary or defend her) or argue about it. Although Daniel is friendly to Andrew, he can get angry at him for letting Taylor die near the church. However, Daniel will defend Andrew from John if he accidentally shoots and kills Angela in Low Point.
