- Julia brings the book Shroud of Innocence with her, which is about the witch trials. The book reappears in the game itself, where it can be found by Anthony in his house. Additionally, Amy uses this expression to warn about the devil disguising as Mary before being executed.
- Conrad's tank top worn from Intrusion onward reads "Salem, 1692, Massachusetts."
- One of the soldiers who died on the SS Ourang Medan, Arthur Miller, shares his name with the author of The Crucible, a play about the Salem witch trials.
References to House of Ashes
- The 1947 Newspaper references the disappearance of Randolph and his expedition team in the Zagros Mountains.
References to The Devil in Me
- Brad's ghost story references a lighthouse on an island and describes a killer wielding an axe and possibly a meat hook, weapons that Du'Met can use to kill the protagonists.
- The 1947 Newspaper contains an article referring the murder of a gangster near the Park Central Hotel.
- Part of the symbol on the front of the Ritual Book looks like a minimalistic version of a drawing compass which serves as the game's symbol, and the book says "It should number three female and two male...", possibly referring to the main cast of The Devil in Me.

- The names of some pastors on the list in the church, Edward Sterry, Solomon Temple, Nicholas Ley, and Richard Bradshaw, may reference Eric Edward King, the temple, Nicolas "Nick" Kay, and Agnes Bradshaw, respectively.
- The Newspaper: Cause of Fire has a small section about a reunion for Vietnam veterans of 3rd Force Recon.

- The Old Magazine has an article about the protagonists' television documentary series Architects of Murder and names Kate Wilder, one of the main protagonists.
- The Newspaper: Factory Protests has an article about an exhibit on World's Columbian Exposition and neoclassical architecture.

- The Theme Park Photo is a reference to Inferno's Ride from the game.

- A memorial of the sinking of the ship "SS Cassiopeia" on May 1, 1907 is a reference to the spaceship "CDC Cassiopeia" in the game.
- The Anxiety Book mentions about imagining oneself exploring planets far away from Earth as a calming method.
