KING WILLIAM'S WAR: COMMENCEMENT DAY MASSACRE
23 June 1690
On Commencement Day 1690, while the Puritans celebrated the graduation of the town's young men, an army of French and Indians attacked, burning a number of homesteads. Eight people were killed and a number of women and children taken into slavery in Acadia. The fate of the slaves is unknown.
