The Clarke Family Home, also known as the Ruined House, is a location in The Dark Pictures Anthology's second installment, Little Hope. This house belonged to the Clarke family, but was partially destroyed by fire in 1972. Its ruins still remain since then.
House Plan[]
The house is quite large and surrounded by the fence with spikes in atop. It consists of two floors, an attic and big backyard.
Pre-burnt[]
First Floor[]
Ground floor consists of 4 rooms, divided equally into a recreation area and a cooking area. This floor is accessed from 4 doors:
- Main door (used by Tanya and Anthony in the prologue and by the protagonists in Full Circle).
- The back door in the kitchen (used by Anthony in the prologue when he goes outside to Tanya).
- The back door in the passageway connecting the foyer, kitchen and living room (used by the protagonists in Heavy Burden).
- Side doors in the lounge (never used).
Foyer[]
The main entrance leads to the foyer, where on the right is a table with a telephone and hangers. The foyer is connected with:
- The dining room through the left aisle.
- The living room through the right aisle.
- Kitchen and living room through the passage at the end of the corridor.
- Second floor through the stairs.
Dining Room[]
The walls are decorated with paintings and plates. In the center of the dining room is a long table for 8 people and a large chandelier hanging above it. To the right of the entrance is the door to the kitchen, as well as the pendulum clock next to it.
Kitchen[]
The kitchen is connected to most of the rooms and also has doors and doors to the outside. It is designed in the usual 70s style - a small room with tables, shelves in the corners and a small table for 4 people.
Living Room[]
The living room is large and takes up most of the floor. In the center of the room is a beige sofa, two red armchairs, and a small TV. A fan with lamps hangs above them. There is a fireplace opposite the sofa. There are several black tables against the walls.
Lounge[]
The lounge is connected only to the living room by two aisles. There is a bar and a bookshelf by the door. On the other side there is a door to the courtyard, from where a tree with a tire swing can be seen. In the corners of the room are several armchairs and small tables on which are the books "Shroud of Innocence" and "The New England witch trials".
Second Floor[]
The second floor is accessed by the only staircase from the foyer. It is a corridor connecting the Clarkes' bedrooms and a shared bathroom that wasn't shown used by someone.
Bedrooms[]
- Anthony and Dennis's bedroom is first from the right in the corridor. It is made in light green colors. There are 4 Dennis posters of music bands on the walls. There are a couple of beds and closets in the room. There is a large bedside table and a desk between the door to the dressing room.
- Tanya's bedroom is second from the right in the hallway. It is made in red colors with floral patterns. Vintage posters and portraits hang on the walls. There is a dressing table and a closet by the door. There is a dressing room and a table by the bed.
- Megan's bedroom is first on the left in the hallway. It is done in white and decorated with horses. There is a closet, a bed and a wardrobe by the door. Near the balcony are Megan's toys, a rocking horse and a dollhouse.
- Anne's and James's bedroom is second from the left. It is done in light colors (although the room looks green due to the lighting). There are two wardrobes between the double bed and shelves opposite. Near the entrance there is a door leading to the private bathroom of the spouses.
- Although the bathroom was not fully shown, the sink, toilet, bedside table and the bath itself could be seen in it.
Balcony[]
The balcony is accessed by using a door from Megan's rooms or Anne and James's rooms. In the center there is a round table and four armchairs and a small sofa in the corner. A chimney runs against the wall.
Attic[]
The Attic is accessed by using a trap door near the stairs. However, to go upstairs, a ladder is required. It was not shown in full, but chairs and rolls could be seen. There is one window in the attic.
Post-burnt[]
As a result of the fire, the house was completely burned down and partially destroyed. All windows are boarded up with boards. The living room suffered the most due to the collapsed ceiling.
Little Hope[]
1972[]
Intact, the house appears in the prologue. All family members go about their business and find themselves locked, presumably Megan (Anne - in the bathroom, Dennis - in the attic, Tanya - on the balcony and Anthony - outside the house). Megan's doll, placed too close to the stove, catches fire and as a result the whole house burns down. At this moment, everyone except Anthony is killed.
2019[]
Anthony returns to the house 48 years later, but as a result of the bus crash, he considers himself to be Andrew, who, along with John, Angela, Daniel and Taylor, is hiding from the demons, while looking for a girl. On the second floor, they run into Mary, who is accused of witchcraft, and Abraham, who decides to intercede for her. Having decided the fate of Mary, the group, thinking that everything is over, prepare to leave, but two outcomes may occur:
- If any or all of the protagonists (except Andrew) failed to break their locked traits or Mary was executed, debris will collapse and block the door, trapping any protagonists inside the house as demons burst in and kill everyone inside, as Andrew stands outside, watching their death in horror.
- If all the protagonists break their locked traits and Mary is saved, the group will leave the house unharmed.
If Andrew is the only survivor, then he will sit on the doorsteps when Vince comes up to him.
- If Andrew was hostile to Vince, he will call the police and Andrew will be arrested.
- If Andrew was friendly to Vince, he will point to a nearby roadside diner and then leave.
- If Mary was executed and Andrew has a gun with at least one bullet, then he will shoot himself and his corpse will lie on the doorsteps.
- If Mary was saved and Andrew has a gun with at least one bullet, then when he tries to shoot himself, a hallucination of Megan will appear, who will stop and comfort Andrew, continuing to sit with him on the doorsteps.
- If Andrew didn't find the gun, lost it, or ran out of bullets, then Andrew will remain sitting on the doorstep.
After the scene, it will be revealed that Andrew is the bus driver and the Clarke family's youngest son, Anthony.
Trivia[]
- According to Taylor, the tire swing she found near the execution site was hers and she painted the stars on with her father.
- This foreshadows that Taylor is an imaginary representation of Tanya, who may have painted the stars on the tire swing with James.
- Before the game's final release, it was also known as the Colonial House.
- Although outside the house, the windows are very brightly lit, inside all rooms there is dim light.
- This is the only location in the game in which all of the protagonists can die.
