Doctor Clarice Stokes is a supporting character and potential antagonist in The Dark Pictures Anthology's third installment, House of Ashes. She is a civilian physicist and Eric's assistant, given full clearance to aid the Americans on their mission. She was voiced and motion captured by Clare McConnell and was modelled on Eleni Miariti.
Appearance[]
Clarice is a young woman recognizable by her slim build, baseball cap and choker necklace, while also having a piercing on the right side of her nose. She wears the same plate carrier as Rachel, in a tan color and without any pouches.
Personality[]
Clarice is passionate about science and pursued it to the surprise of those close around her. Clarice is straightforward and lacks respect for her superiors. She likes to use sarcasm to tease others or to mock them. She is flirtatious and use innuendos towards Jason. Clarice is analytical and is immediately aware that Rachel is having an affair with Nick. Unlike all of the other Americans, she is the only civilian on the mission and thus lack the training to act properly during dangerous situations. Despite her lack of restrain when talking, Clarice can show some care as seen when fixing Rachel's injury.
Once infected, Clarice shows a vulnerable and despairing side to Rachel that contrasts to her usual self, to the point of trying to make Rachel promise to never leave her behind. Clarice's future actions will greatly depend on what Rachel says to her. Clarice can be realistic of her state and stay back as to not endanger Rachel or follow her in hope of curing herself. If brought along, Clarice will be grateful towards her and potentially save Rachel's life by putting hers on the line if Rachel fails to fight off a vampire.
Biography[]
On May 30, 2003, Clarice was involved in a mission in search of weapons of mass destruction. When the American units arrived at the landing point in the Zagros Mountains, they were ambushed by an Iraqi patrol. Due to the warfare, Clarice was plunged into the depths of the Zagros Mountains alongside her comrades and enemies. What Clarice found lurked below would soon make her meet her ill-fated demise. Depend on the players' decisions, she would either be put out of her misery or turn into the enemy herself.

Main Story[]
Act 1[]
Clarice is first seen accompanying Eric as they exit the helicopter on top of Camp Slayer. As they walk through the palace, she meets with Merwin and he antagonizes her. After Eric either acts restrained or scolds Jason for calling his wife "Queen Bitch," Clarice calls Jason "hotshot." As Eric explores the room, Clarice and Jason flirt with each other. She then prepares the presentation and downloads the data Eric requested.
In the helicopter as they fly to the compound with suspected WMDs, Clarice asks what "semper fi" means, and Joey tells her it means "always loyal." Joey then tells Clarice about marine superstitions, much to Clarice's mockery. After the compound is secured, Clarice claims that she doesn't have a good feeling. Merwin then mocks Clarice, which makes her angry. During the firefight, Clarice is seen taking cover as she yells.
After Nick and Jason follow Merwin's scream underground, they find Clarice trying to free him from the barbed wire. Jason or Clarice then cuts Merwin down. Clarice is ordered to keep watch while Nick and Jason administer first aid, but she is suddenly dragged into the darkness.
Act 2[]
Clarice is found by Rachel in the pit, and is visibly ill. As the pair escape from the pit her condition continues to deteriorate, and she can be abandoned by Rachel, refuse to follow Rachel, fall into the chasm as she swings, or follow her into the temple.
If Clarice joins Rachel in the temple, Jason, having seen what happened to Joey, can shoot her in the head . If this happens, the parasite is seen exiting Clarice's body through her mouth and she does not reappear as a vampire. She may also be caught in an explosion if Nick directs the team toward the mines. If this happens, she does not reappear as a vampire. If she is spared and brought to the sacrificial chamber, she eventually succumbs and transform. If she turns in the chamber, she kills Dar and, if he is still alive, Eric.
Act 3[]
If Clarice had previously been shot by Jason, turned in the sacrificial chamber, or left behind, she is briefly mentioned by Nick or Salim.
If Rachel doesn't become a vampire and Clarice did, she ambushes the survivors in the caves. If there are more than two protagonists, she attempts to kill one, and can either succeed or fail. If there are only two protagonists, she climbs after them and be cut loose, falling into the caverns.

Rachel[]
Rachel and Clarice are the only women deployed on the mission. While the pair have a different background, Rachel recognizes that they're the same in that they're both willing to do what needs to be done in order to achieve their ambition. Apart from that, they have quite incompatible personalities that are bound to create conflict: Rachel is distant and cold while Clarice is straightforward and provocative. Their encounters will and the actions that will follow will impact on the lives of Rachel and her team mates. Depending on the player's action, their relationship can be friendly and supportive or distant and cold.
Jason[]
Clarice seems attracted to Jason as she flirts with him in the briefing room. The two can commiserate about Eric if the latter acts indignant and arrogant towards them at the beginning.
If Rachel brings back Clarice, Jason will express relief to see her. However, once learning she is infected, Jason has a change of heart and immediately proposes to take her down. If Rachel accuses Jason to betray her as he already did when Clarice was dragged away, Jason is hurt and will be convinced to lower his gun, meaning that he felt guilty for leaving her. Jason is the only protagonist that Clarice cannot kill as a vampire.
