Private Charles Anderson, also known as Charlie, is one of the two false protagonists and a playable character in The Dark Pictures Anthology's first installment, Man of Medan. He was an American soldier who, along with his comrade Joe and the entire crew of the SS Ourang Medan, fell victim to the ship in 1947. He was voiced and motion captured by Sean Colby and was modelled on Jonathan Burteaux.
Appearance[]
Charlie is a man with a light white complexion. He has dark brown eyes, a short dark brown hair, styled in a quiff and a trimmed beard.
Charlie wears a standard military uniform, including a green shirt, brown pants and brown boots. Charlie also wears a silver pendant with ID, which is partially visible from under his shirt.
Personality[]
Charlie comes across as a man with charisma, as he calls himself 'Charlie Charming' upon seeing the market trader and shows off his victory over training dummy. Also Charlie is self-serving as after giving Joe fifty cents, he immediately wants it back.
When the two begin wandering around the ship filled with dead soldiers, Charlie is shown to be more fearful than Joe. However, unlike his comrade, Charlie is more cautious, as he can prefer to hide from an unknown threat rather than confront it directly.
Biography[]
Charlie was one of the soldiers tasked to board on the Ourang Medan alongside his comrade Joe. On June 11, 1947, as the ship was picking up cargo, the two got drunk and almost got into a fight, but were stopped and Charlie was sent to the brig for 10 days. On June 22, when the ship was caught in a storm and people began to mysteriously die, Charlie reunited with Joe and tried to escape only to both die like the rest of the crew.

Prologue[]
As the military loads cargo on the SS Ourang Medan in the Manchurian port, Charlie and Joe are seen drinking at the market place. When it comes time for them to return to the ship, Charlie spots a training dummy while Joe goes to learn his future from a fortune teller and then switches places with Joe. After learning about his future, the guys then return to the ship, where in a drunken state they try to start a fight. However, the two are stopped by Sergeant Ferris, who orders to take Charlie to the brig.
Charlie awakens in the brig to the sound of aircraft engines and gunfire and finds himself locked in a room. After a while, Joe finds Charlie and helps him free himself. The two try to get out of the ship and along the way find many dead soldiers, as well as a sergeant from earlier, who runs and shoots at an unknown threat in a panic.
Upon reaching Cargo Hold 3, Charlie and Joe are examining a pile of bodies when they suddenly hear gunfire. The two quickly arm themselves, with Charlie taking a knife, after which they walk down the hallway to Cargo Hold 2. On the way, Charlie notices a soldier's body and stops to examine it while Joe continues walking, causing the guys to split up. Following Joe, Charlie enters the cargo hold and finds Joe dying, who tells him to hide before he dies. Charlie can hide in a locker or examine Joe's body, but either way he encounters the disfigured fortune teller. Regardless of Charlie's efforts, he dies, either by being shot or from a heart attack.

Fliss can find Charlie's corpse, as well as those protagonists who went down into the lower deck can find information about Charlie in various documents.

Relationships[]
Joe[]
Joe and Charlie are comrades. They were shown as close friends, drinking together at the market, but at the same time ready to fight over trifles, such as fifty cents Joe borrowed from Charlie. When the ship was in chaos and the crew begins to die, the two tried to stick together. Though each of the guys thought his friend was dead after the separation (a fact to which both Charlie and Joe were horrified), in reality they began hallucinating and during the reunion, Charlie and Joe failed to recognize each other, causing them to kill each other in the fight.
