“ | I know that I'm the butt of your jokes and that's just my cross to bear as the patriarch of our little family. | ” |
Charles Lonnit, also known as Charlie, is one of the five main protagonists and a playable character in The Dark Pictures Anthology's fourth installment, The Devil in Me. He is the founder of Lonnit Entertainment and director of the documentary film show Architects of Murder. He was voiced and motion captured by Paul Kaye and was modelled on Simon Bond.
Appearance[]
Charlie is an older man with light, wrinkled skin. He has blue-gray eyes that are covered with a pair of dark red glasses and blond hair that is almost completely gray. The hair is slicked back revealing Charlie's forehead and has a track on the right side. He also has visible gray stubble.
According to Du'Met's medical details catalogue he stands at 5'10" (178cm) and weighs 204lbs (92.5Kg).
Charlie wears a button-down navy plaid vest with four pockets, a white shirt with rolled up sleeves underneath, completed with a dark green tie and tie clip, yellow slacks and brown leather boots. Outside, he wears a green overcoat and a blue baseball cap with a yellow visor. In the interview, Charlie wears a black two-button polo shirt similar to Mark's, except it has closed buttons and a bent collar.
Upon arrival at the hotel, Charlie takes off his cap but continues to wear the overcoat for a while. Having survived the furnace trap, he loses the jacket and finds himself covered in soot marks. In the finale, he gets wet after jumping into water, which also washes the soot off him. Charlie also can endure a couple of injuries, such as a slightly cut nose and a crushed left hand.
Personality[]
“ | Highhanded, funny, pompous, with really poor people skills. He's old school — you don't question the director! | ” |
Charlie comes across as a man with a hot temper, who meets anger with more anger. He is very demanding and stern with his crew, not shy about reprimanding and insulting them for their bad job or attitude.
As the creator and director of Architects of Murder, Charlie greatly values his show and is determined to do whatever it takes to keep it going. His desperation for success can be compared to obsession, as Charlie, while trying to film the show, dismisses obvious signs of danger and even Erin's disappearance showing no concern for her. He continues to think about filming even after surviving the events of the ominous night, though this time he says it ironically.
Although Charlie belittles his crew most of the time, he does care for them despite not showing it. He can congratulate them on their work and commends their efforts in keeping the show alive. Charlie shows remorse on bringing them to the hotel in an effort to save the show, and is glad when he sees that they are all alive.
Biography[]
Charlie was born on September 26, 1973 in the United Kingdom. In 2002, he moved out of the UK and started living in the US. He started his own business called "Lonnit Entertainment", then produced and directed his own documentary show that focuses on serial killers called, "The Architects of Murder".
On October 26, 2022, Charlie, out of desperation, accepted an invitation by Granthem Du'Met to visit and document a replica of H.H. Holmes' "Murder Castle", in order to save his show. He arrived with his crew to a remote island in Lake Michigan, and was astonished to find an actual replica of the hotel. But when walls began to move and voices began wailing within in them, he realized he has led them all to a death trap. His fate would then be decided by the player, in which he would successfully check out of the hotel, or become one of the killer's many victims.

Main Story[]
Act 1[]
Charlie introduces himself in a raw season 2 footage of his show, "The Architects of Murder", he complains on how his show didn't hit the mark and how it was a mess. After showing his crew the final episode of his show for season 1, they all silently agree that it wasn't good, Jamie gives out her opinion but is interrupted by a phone call. Charlie answers the phone and is invited to a replica of H.H. Holmes' "Murder Castle" by Du'Met, although skeptical, he agrees out of desperation, but mentions how his crew is a temperamental bunch.
After getting on a limo, Jamie and Kate complain how this trip feels like their trip to Topeka. Charlie tries to deny this but backs down, Du'Met asks them to give up their phones as to not allow them from leaking his personal info, the crew is worried but Charlie reassures them. They arrive at the shoreline of Lake Michigan where they wait for the ferry, Charlie and Mark decide to go up to a lighthouse to get some shots of the island. After getting their shots, they go back and get on the ferry where they meet Du'Met, Charlie introduces the crew and tries to ask him questions but is told to wait.
They arrive on the island where they begin to shoot their intro, Charlie stops once Du'Met ushers them to get to the hotel. Charlie asks Kate to take a look around the island in secret, she complains but does what is told, Charlie makes Jamie go with her as well. After not receiving any useful information from the two, they arrive at the hotel where he is amazed to see it's in beautiful condition. They check into the hotel in the lobby, Charlie asks Erin where his cigarettes are to which she points out. After trying to find his room, he eavesdrop on Erin and Jamie's conversation, to which he can be scolded by the latter. Charlie declares to them that they'll shoot after dinner, but before leaving, he tells Erin that his cigarettes aren't in his bag.
Charlie and Erin tries to find his cigarettes but to no avail, instead, they opt to find one in the bar instead. Erin can also find his eviction letter but Charlie tells her not to worry. Charlie arrives at the bar but is irritated that the machine isn't working as it should. He later overhears Mark defending or complaining about him with Kate, and can reprimand them, but announces that they'll be having dinner. After finding out that Du'Met has left the island, he can make a celebratory toast to his crew or a hostile one. They all go and prepare for a shoot at the lobby but is interrupted by Erin's screams. He breaks down the door with the crew and can find Erin in despair or her missing. She tells the crew about what she saw, but Charlie tells her that everything is fine and brings her to her room.
Act 2[]
Charlie is dismissive about Erin's experience or her disappearance, he decides to try and find Du'Met to get some answers. Kate is defiant and argues with Charlie that they aren't safe and should leave, Charlie ignores her then goes to find Du'Met as Jamie follows. The duo stumbles upon blood stains that causes Jamie to panic, Charlie tries to reassure her much to Jamie's frustration. They follow the blood stains that lead to the groundskeeper tied to a chair, Charlie steps on a pressure plate that activates a contraption. The contraption causes a scythe to hang over the groundskeeper, Jamie deduces that if Charlie steps off the plate, the scythe will impale the groundskeeper. Du'Met appears and looms a knife near Charlie's face. If Charlie steps off the plate then the groundskeeper will be impaled, if not he'll get cut by Du'Met which causes him to step back. Either way the groundskeeper will get impaled much to Charlie's horror, the duo will then flee the scene, they try to escape but is locked inside by a metal gate.
The duo locates Kate and Mark but are blocked by a moving wall, Charlie can get his hand crushed or is able to tell them to leave the hotel any way they can. Charlie and Jamie continue walking through many corridors until they hear a child's wails. They follow the voice until they reach a freezer, storing the bodies of pigs and Natalie Morello's body. The duo try to open a door but it causes Charlie to fall through a trapdoor, he lands in the basement and is knocked out. Moments later, Charlie awakens and explores his new surroundings, eventually leading him to find a pack of cigarettes. He tries to light the cigarettes but is disappointed to find that he has lost his lighter, the door behind him suddenly closes then locks.
Charlie tries to open the door but can't reach it's handle, he also tries to lift a grate but fails. Gas starts to enter the room which causes Charlie to call out for help, he notices Du'Met standing in front of the door before closing it's hatch. A mannequin comes up from a hole on the floor and lights a lighter, it causes an explosion and fire begins spreading in the room. Charlie can choose to either force the door or lift up the grate. If Charlie forces the door he will be burned to death, lifting up the grate will let Charlie hide underneath it and he is safe from the ensuing flames.
Charlie is left underneath the grate for some time until Du'Met enters the room, he finds his burned overcoat and presumes that Charlie has died. After leaving the room, Charlie gets out of the grate and tries to find a means of escape. He can find the groundskeeper which is actually a mannequin designed to scare them. He opens a conveyor belt that leads to a grinder, he enters it and avoids falling into the grinder. He notices Du'Met entering and can either go back out of the conveyor belt or hide. If he goes back he'll fall into the grinder and can possibly die, hiding leads to him trying to stay quiet in order to evade the unsuspecting Du'Met, if caught he'll get grinded to death. After succeeding in evading Du'Met, Charlie notices a ladder leading upwards which he would then take.
Act 3[]
Charlie makes his way onto hotel grounds and hears Mark's scream in the distance. He searches for Mark and encounters a dog, but it quickly runs away much to Charlie's annoyance. He climbs down a broken lift and is ambushed by Mark, he is grateful to see him alive then asks about the other's conditions. Mark can tell Charlie about Erin's death and is saddened to hear the news. Mark informs Charlie about their plan to reach the lighthouse to signal for help, the duo continues onwards into a warehouse. They discover a few monitors and bloody clothing but are soon interrupted by Du'Met's footsteps, the duo hides from him in a freezer. If Charlie fails to hide, he will be gutted and strung up onto a meat hook, otherwise Du'Met will leave. Charlie and Mark to their horror, discover multiple body bags strung up, Charlie comments on how Du'Met is preserving his kills. They move forward and cross an unsteady beam where Charlie can fall and die, if not then they both make it to the lighthouse.
They both are startled by Erin but is glad to have found her, she tells the duo that she found a way into the lighthouse and guide them there. If Erin had found a tape that indicates Charlie's involvement in the murders, she will confront him about it. She tries to coerce Mark into tying up Charlie until help gets here. If Mark agrees, Charlie is tied onto a fence and is killed by Du'Met when left behind, otherwise Mark will defend Charlie and he is brought into the lighthouse. The group can discover proof that Charlie was not involved in the murders, to which Erin will apologize to him. Charlie and Erin stay behind as Mark fixes the beacon, reuniting with Kate and Jamie in the process. They hear fighting and discover Mark injured, Du'Met ambushes them but Charlie fights him off with a lamp then the crew runs to the boathouse.
At the boathouse, the crew finds a police officer but he is quickly killed off by Du'Met, destroying his boat as well. They run off and reach a spare boat to which they start, they narrowly avoid Du'Met and speed off. Charlie is thankful to be alive and as he watches the lighthouse in the distance, he gets an idea for a series two. Just then, Du'Met ambushes them and the crew have a final standoff, Charlie can die in the process by means of getting his head chopped off. If he survives, Charlie jumps off the boat and is safe from harm, Charlie will swim towards the mainland.
The End[]
On the mainland, Charlie and the others flag down a truck driver on the road, they huddle up together with police vehicles surrounding them. Charlie is offered a cigarette by the truck driver, but denies the offer, telling him that he is now trying to quit smoking. He looks back at the hotel a final time as the sun rises.
- If Charlie's hand had been crushed, he clasps his crushed hand momentarily.

Relationships[]

| |
|
Erin[]
Erin is Charlie's intern and the sound engineer for the show. He treats her like more of a servant or personal assistant, having her carry his bags and picking up his laundry rather than getting to do more with the show's sound design. He also does not pay her consistently, and likely considers her last priority in that regard. Despite this, the two have a generally positive relationship, and Erin is polite and cordial Charlie. She also worries what Charlie thinks of her professionalism. Charlie can praise her during dinner or belittle her for losing his cigarettes. If Erin finds the edited tape of Charlie, she believes that Charlie is working with Du'Met, possibly coupling this revelation with the knowledge that the show is losing money. This can lead to her convincing Mark to tie Charlie up outside the lighthouse, causing his demise.
Jamie[]
Jamie is Charlie's subordinate. The two are on good terms and Charlie considers her a reliable crew member, even if the two bicker due to Jamie's sarcasm. Though the two argue frequently, they can also be respectful if Charlie is nice during dinner. Jamie is horrified when she believes Charlie is killed in the furnace, and if she finds his body outside in Lake.
Kate[]
Kate is Charlie's subordinate, but Charlie depends on her as the presenter of the show. The two disagree frequently and get into many arguments, with Kate making fun of Charlie's smoking and Charlie taking issue with Kate's desire to move on from Lonnit Entertainment. They fundamentally disagree about how the show's script is written, with Kate saying that he doesn't know the difference between what can be written and what can be said. Despite this, Kate is horrified when she believes Charlie is killed in the furnace, and if she finds his body outside in Lake.
Mark[]
Mark is Charlie's subordinate and most loyal crew member. The two have the highest relationship together, and Charlie always depends on Mark to back up his plans when Kate and Jamie disagree. Mark is the least willing to believe Erin when she says Charlie is helping Du'Met, and is the most reluctant to disobey Charlie's orders. Despite this, Mark can side with Kate when she says she plans to move on from Lonnit Entertainment, and he can side with Erin when she makes an argument for why Charlie cannot be trusted.
