Cargo Hold 3A, also known as Area 7c or Section 7c, is a minor location in The Dark Pictures Anthology's first installment, Man of Medan. It was a temporary, improvised chapel of the Ourang Medan situated in the main deck.
Overview[]
Cargo Hold 3A is one of the many cargo holds aboard the Ourang Medan used to store the remains of US military men that underwent experimentation at the Manchurian Gold testing facility during World War II.
Access to the temporary hold was restricted during the Ourang Medan's voyage. That can be confirmed by the different clues the main protagonists can find in their journey during Man of Medan's events.
Description[]
Cargo Hold 3A, like the others, are one of the many holds inside the Ourang Medan. However, this hold's purpose is not for a garage, but rather, acts as a makeshift chapel for the dead soldiers.
In the back of the hold, there's a curtain covering different ceremonial items. The chapel contains 4 caskets, which are:
- A casket marked with the name "Brian Carter", a US soldier.
- An unmarked casket containing a conjoined skeleton (this is the only casket that can be opened).
- An unmarked child-sized casket containing Jack Hawkins.
- An unmarked and chained casket.
History[]
1947[]
While the Ourang Medan stopped at the dockside port of Manchuria, some soldiers were tasked to bring and load the caskets into the hold.
Throughout the voyage of the Ourang Medan, many soldiers took part in guarding the hold, but none were allowed to enter. Anyone caught trespassing would be sent to the brig. Some soldiers feel scared about guarding this hold to the point of skipping their job.
2019[]
The couple Alex and Julia, possibly along with the latter's brother Conrad, stumbled upon this hold, where they decided to explore the ominous caskets within the hold.
At dawn, if the military was called, two soldiers would stumble upon this hold. However, they made no comments and moved on.

Prologue[]
While the Ourang Medan stops at the dockside port of Manchuria, the hold makes a brief appearance as soldiers are seen loading caskets into the hold.
Act 2[]
Alex, along with Julia and possibly Conrad, arrive at this hold while trying to find the others. Alex can inspect the caskets within the hold, and even open one of them, revealing a mutated skeleton. Alex can also move a curtain and be frightened by a decapitated head, only to realize it's a vase. (Chapter - Caskets)
The End[]
If the protagonists called the military and have the distributor cap intact/Conrad escaped on the speedboat, the military will arrive and two soldiers decide to inspect the ship, in which the hold makes a brief appearance.
Trivia[]
- It is referred to as Area 7c and Section 7c in the Chapel Memo.
