Cargo Hold 2 is a major location in The Dark Pictures Anthology's first installment, Man of Medan.
Overview[]
Cargo Hold 2 is one of the many cargo holds aboard the Ourang Medan with two floors used as a storage.
In this hold, the chemical bioweapon Manchurian Gold is stored, which leaks after exposion to water and electricity caused by a lightning, causing people to hallucinate supernatural events aboard the ship.
Description[]
The hold stores several items, including a jeep, a locker, and especially the Manchurian Gold contained in crates on the other side of the room separated by a large cargo door. On the ceiling of the hold, a hanged bag appears. Due to the incident aboard the ship, several corpses can be seen in the cargo hold.
When Fliss enters the hold, she will hallucinate it as a ballroom. Several parts of the hold are replaced with something different, including a jeep with a piano, a locker with a wardrobe (possibly with the Jolly Jack inside), the hanged bag with a chandelier, the cargo door with a curtain, and the Manchurian Gold crates with a coffin filled with blood. The ballroom has several luxurious dining tables around it.
History[]
1947[]
Two soldiers aboard the ship, Joe and Charlie arrived at this hold, where they would kill each other due to both hallucinating each other as menacing apparitions.
2019[]
Fliss entered this hold after escaping from several threats. Meanwhile, Brad stumbled upon this area as well and met up with Fliss, after which either one of them ran away, one of them was killed, or the duo recognized each other.
A protagonist arrived at this hold in order to retrieve the distributor cap from Olson. Meanwhile, a protagonist who went down the hole would also arrive at this area through a flooded hold on the other side. After an intense battle, the protagonist who went down the hole would return with either both another protagonist and the distributor cap, one of them, or neither of them.

Prologue[]
Joe and Charlie arrive at Cargo Hold 2, but they are separated as the latter is told to stay back. Hallucinating their comrades dead, Joe and Charlie will encounter his son and the Fortune Teller respectively (in reality, Joe is the Fortune Teller while Charlie is the former's son). Joe can die by heart attack or being stabbed by Charlie, while Charlie can die by heart attack or being shot by Joe.
Act 2[]
Brad arrives at this area after breaking out of a loop (if he was caught by the pirates) or exploring through the ship (if he hid). Regardless, he will jump onto the hanging bag after being frightened by a hanging corpse. If Brad has a gas mask, he will use it to dispel the hallucinations. If hallucinations are not dispelled, he will encounter an undead soldier, in which he will either flee (also kill the soldier in the process) or be killed by the soldier. Otherwise, he will meet Fliss and the duo sets off to search for the others.
Fliss arrives at this area after escaping several undead soldiers, whom she will hallucinate the cargo hold as a ballroom. While exploring, Fliss may dispel the hallucinations by going outside the balcony. After a moment, Fliss will notice a platform falling down. If Fliss doesn't dispel the hallucinations, she will encounter the Grim Reaper, in which she will either flee (also kill the reaper in the process) or be killed by the reaper. Otherwise, she will meet Brad and the duo sets off to search for the others.
Act 3[]
Two protagonists will arrive at this area and confront Olson, who possesses the distributor cap. If the protagonist behind the bulkhead door does not open the door, but Olson does, the cargo hold begins to sway as the fighting protagonist continues to fight against Olson. In the end of the intense battle, one of the protagonists may survive, be killed by the falling cargo door or Olson himself, while the distributor cap may be saved or destroyed. Either way, the protagonist(s) leave this area, with or without the cap.
If the protagonist behind the bulkhead door opens it, the confrontation will be different, where Olson retreats up to one of the catwalks, where he strikes an oil barrel, igniting the flames while the flood becomes hazardous with live electric wires touching it. The protagonists who are fighting Olson can either survive the confrontation, die while trying to save him from falling into the water, or be killed by Olson himself, while the distributor cap is either preserved or lost to the water. Regardless, whoever that may have survived will leave the flooded cargo hold.
Trivia[]
- Cargo Hold 2 is marked as "Out of Bounds" to the crew of the Ourang Medan on a map of the ship found on the upper deck.
- This area was reported as partially flooded at 00:12 on June 22, 1947.
- This area has the most possible character deaths onboard the ship.
- In the original version, it was impossible for Junior to reach the cargo hold. However, in the latest update, if the bulkhead door was opened by a protagonist and Junior is alive, he will be present in the hold.
