Cargo Hold 1 is a minor location in The Dark Pictures Anthology's first installment, Man of Medan.

Overview[]

Cargo Hold 1 is one of the many cargo holds aboard the Ourang Medan which is sunken after the meteorological conditions of the last 72 years. The broken roof can be slightly seen, which would explain that rainwater could enter and sink the whole room.

The engineer's logbook indicates that structural brittleness and cracks in the hold likely lead to the eventual flooding after the ship was abandoned.

2019[]

The couple Julia and Alex stumbled upon this hold as they looked for the former's brother. While on the bridge, Olson plunged the couple into the water below with a sledgehammer. Danny then swam over and found the couple with the intention to rescue them, but much to Alex's hallucination, he could drown the savior. Being pursued by Olson, Alex and Julia fleed the hold.

Main Story[]

Looking for Conrad, Alex and Julia stumble upon this hold, where they are stalked by Olson. As they move forward on the bridge, Olson smashes it with his sledgehammer, destroying the bridge and plunging the couple into the water below. After falling into the water, they are found by Danny with the intention to rescue them. However, since Alex is hallucinating, he mistakes Danny as a threat and starts drowning him, to which Julia may ask him to stop or encourage him. Alex can end up successfully drown Danny (although he is revealed to still be alive) or spare him, whom he later swims away. Leaving from the water, Alex and Julia calm down and breath before they see Danny washed upon and Olson climbing out of the water. Olson then starts chasing them, to which the couple quickly opens the door and exits the hold.
