Brothers is the second chapter of Act 3 in House of Ashes and the eighteenth overall.
The player controls Jason (Theatrical Cut) and Salim (Curator's Cut) as they arrive at a gigantic, buried structure and talk about themselves.
Unknown Structure, 0221 HRS, 3431 FT.[]
The elevator Jason and Salim use is seen descending down. Eventually, it stops at the bottom of the well and the soldiers exit. Jason comments how the scenery looks nothing he's ever seen before. He also comments how the vampires aren't following. Salim jokes about waiting for them, but Jason insists they move. The guys can explore the structure and find some things along the pathway such as:
- A picture.
- Finds Ledger.
- A giant cocoon. Salim comments how it smells like formaldehyde.
- Randolph's corpse.
- A pocket watch next to Randolph's corpse with a picture of Mary in it.
- The ninth part of Randolph Hodgson's journal.
- A book of Randolph's journal. When opened, all the pages in the book are torn, to the disappointment of whoever found it.
- A ledge. Interacting with it will progress the story.
Both Jason and Salim climb up and find a very wide opening in the structure, revealing it to be the remains of an alien ship. As they observe the structure in awe, Salim laments that God is punishing humanity for the mistakes they've made. He can then be worried or gloomy.
- If Salim is worried, he will tell Jason how his son is the only thing he has in this world after his wife left him and he gave everything to his son that he couldn't have, after which Jason comments about how tough it is to be a single parent. Salim states how he's proud of his son since he's going to university in London, but wishes he stopped stealing, before saying he misses him so much.
- If Salim left an angry message to his neighbor in his home, he tells Jason about it and laments that it may be the last thing Zain heard.
Salim notices Jason's silence and asks him if his conscience is clear. Jason can be reluctant or foreboding.
- If Jason is reluctant, he will tell Salim about the checkpoint incident, where the former and Nick shot a woman with a bag of groceries. Jason also reveals how he fight not to honor the dead, but because he signs up at the chance he gets to do so since his life was going poorly. Jason then reveals how he didn't even hear about the September 11 attack until a week later and wonders what is he doing here, after which Salim tells him he's serving his country. Jason then laments how he snuff a good life of the woman with a single bullet.
- If Jason is foreboding, he will tell Salim he's sure the Vampires will catch up to them.
Either way, Jason notices Salim is thinking something. Salim then tells Jason a plan to go deeper into the structure and find a way to hurt the Vampires.
- If Jason was reluctant, he will tell to Salim how both of them are still standing after the Vampires tried to "fuck" with them. Jason proceeds to tell Salim that they'll get out of there and see the sun again, after which the latter questions if that's what he truly believes. Jason enthusiastically yells out "oorah," much to Salim's confusion. After having a brief talk, Jason reassures Salim.
- If Jason was foreboding, Jason can be reassuring or foreboding.
- If Jason is reassuring, he will tell Salim he's got his back. Salim then says he can handle himself, to which Jason adds he doesn't doubt him.
- If Jason is foreboding, he will tell Salim that it's every man for themselves once the situation gets hairy. Salim then claims to Jason that once the situation gets hairy, he will need the former's help more. Salim then reassures Jason that he'll hold his hands, but will not cuddle as he must draw the line somewhere.
The pair then moves deeper into the structure.
