An Escape is the third chapter of Act 2 in Man of Medan and the eleventh overall.
The player controls Conrad/Alex (Theatrical Cut) and Julia (Curator's Cut) as the group, having escaped from the pirates, searches the ship for the distributor cap.
Upper Deck, 1:43 A.M.[]
The group continues to run down the corridor and, after running far enough away from Junior, Alex blocks the door behind them with a pipe.
- If Conrad is with the group, he will review the poster with Jenny May, commenting on how he likes the ship's arrangement.
- If Fliss was captured in previous chapter, Conrad will blame himself and offer to go back for Fliss, which Brad (if he's with the group) will agree to, but Alex will say they can't be heroic.
The group continues down the corridor and explores many rooms, such as the laundry room, bathroom, engine room, and bunk room, where they can find:
- Guard Duty Roster.
- A map of the ship.
- Private Reed's Letter.
- Engineer's Logbook.
- Journal.
- A rat skull.
- A picture.
As protagonists walk through the deck, they can experience up to two different visions:
- Conrad will glimpse the Sailor Girl to his right after moving through the first hallway, and again waving at him behind a bed if he moves through the troop berths from the right side.
- Alex will see Kowalski's body on the toilet slowly turn to stare at him if he moves through the bathroom, and an undead arm will reach out from a draped soldier's shirt if he examines the rat skull.
- Julia will see a shadowy figure running from a bathroom stall if she reads Private Reed's Letter, and another figure staring at her from the lower area of the engine room before running away if she looks over the railing.
Soon the group walks out onto the balcony where they see Olson and Danny. Olson puts the distributor cap on a crate and leaves to get the sledgehammer. Immediately after, Junior walks into the cargo hold, alone or with Fliss captured.
Fliss decides to go down for the distributor cap and Brad follows her despite Alex's protest. Once downstairs, the duo doesn't notice Danny approaching, so the protagonists upstairs can warn them or hide.
- If the group decides to hide, Fliss won't notice Danny and he'll find her.
- If the group warns Danny, Fliss will hide, but when she tries to quickly pick up the distributor cap, Danny notices and grabs her.
Anyway, Junior approaches Danny and scolds him for yelling. As Danny begins to walk away with Fliss. they hear a ringing behind them and Danny begins to look around at the crates Brad is hiding behind. The protagonist picks up a nut and can divert or distract.
- If they decide to divert, the protagonist throws the nut into the bottle, distracting Danny. He goes to check what happened and then returns to the crates. Finding nothing, he takes Fliss away while Brad follows them.
- If they decide to distract, the protagonist throws a nut at Danny. The nut will roll toward the crates and Danny, finding Brad, takes both him and Fliss away.
Trying to get the distributor cap back is the same as if Brad was with the group.
Attempts to return the distributor cap will be the same as if Fliss was with the group.
Alex, Julia, and Conrad will think about trying to get the distributor cap back, but will change their minds, thinking it's not worth it.
In any case, as Danny takes the captured protagonists away, the other protagonists decide to follow them.
