The Alien Ship, referred to in-game as Unknown Structure, is a location in The Dark Pictures Anthology's third installment, House of Ashes.
Description[]
It is a transport ship carrying thousands of cocoons that contain vampires, though it is unclear whether the large mounds of cocoons are actually infected with the parasites or not. It is vast and jungle-like, with strange organic formations growing on its walls and across the ground. Devices in its ceiling produce lightning strikes at random, and swarms of bats from the cave system above can sometimes be seen flying around. The structure is metallic and difficult to traverse without the ability to fly. There are control chairs scattered around, some of which contain uninfected, fossilized aliens.
House of Ashes[]
Millions of Years Ago[]
The ship was overrun by a group of bloodthirsty parasites that infected the crew and turned the aliens against each other, causing the vessel to crash on Earth.
Pre-2231 BC[]
During an eclipse and the midst of a war between Akkad and Gutium, several vampires emerge after detecting blood on the surface and massacre everyone aboveground. Balathu or Kurum gets dragged by one vampire into the ship itself where they are partially covered in the cocoon fluid, while the other is infected and becomes The Ancient One.
Main Story[]
Act 3[]
Jason and Salim first enter the structure with the archaeologists' elevator. Arriving at the entrance, each soldier may tell the other their personal problem. Afterwards, the duo moves on and encounters a preserved Balathu/Kurum, whom Salim ends his misery by stabbing their face with the stake. Reaching the cocoon vault, a vampire awakens, causing the soldiers to run away. However, Nick and possibly the others save Jason and Salim and together, they reunite at the Star Chamber.
In the Star Chamber, Salim finds out the truth about the aliens' former empire. The group may also deal with an ordeal where Rachel's infection is growing and must put an end to it. Regardless, the group arrives at the vault, where Nick volunteers to plant the bombs. While it proves to be successful, Nick may die in the process. Escaping the structure, Salim can be separated from the others, where he can either be saved by Jason, reach the elevator himself, or be left behind. Eventually, the group exits the structure.
Trivia[]
- The Alien Ship, along with the Dockside Market, the Duke of Milan, the South Pacific Wreck Site, the SS Ourang Medan, the Temple, Caves, and the Cocoon Vault are the only locations that have chapters named after. (Respectively The City, Chinese Market, The Duke, Wreck, Abandoned Ship, The Temple, The Well, and The Vault)
- This is so far the largest structure in the anthology.
